How come the Klitschko’s we’re awful in the late 90/early 00s?

This is one reason why I don’t rate the Klitschko highly whatsoever. They did terrible while the competition was high but once the competition died out in the late 2000s they picked up the belts and dominated until the competition picked up once again in Fury and Joshua.

Bull****. Wlad wasn’t a monster until he fixed his game with Steward after the Brewster loss. Vitali was the champion and best heavyweight on the planet at a point during the first half of the 2000s, but sat out years with injuries.

It had nothing to do with competition other than Lewis being out of the picture (and Sanders, in Wlad’s case).

Wlad didn't hit his stride before the mid 2000s.
Outside of Lewis (who Vitali put up a commendable fight against), I do not see how the 00-05 era was better than 05-10.
I do not buy your two points that the competetion "died out" towards the end of the 00s, or that the Klitschkos did "terrible" before that.

Absurd post. Their leftovers were competing at the highest levels even as far as this year. The OP DKSAB.

The Klitschko's turned pro in November 1996. It takes two to three years to get up years to get up to speed and gain experience in the pro's for everyone. So make that middle of 1999 before the were ready. Who then do you have in mind that wasn't in decline? Names please.

Mayweather also turned pro late 1996.
By 2000 he was world champion with multiple title defence and a rankee on the p4p list. In these years Klitschkos were losing to non rankers and journeymen.

Money man spent at least 14 years on top of p4p list. Times vitali was listed= zero.
Mayweather topped off his career beating Pacman when he was past prime. Wlad ended it getting out boxed by a guy he was a huge favourite against. There's a planetary sized guff in class between Mayweather and klitschkos

Wlad is an ATG end thread. Vitali is a hall of fame level fighter. End thread. Ruled the division for over a decade. Wrested the power grip from America. Monumental place in history.

What? Mayweather turned pro in October 1996 and did have a lot of fights until 2000 either. Just 22 fights less than Vitali and Wlad.

If you have to use Mayweather to make your point...forget it Dino, your hopeless on this topic. A broken record spewing forth errors.

I saw the video of the brothers with Don King and King was pretending to play an automatically playing piano. They didn't like his dishonesty so didn't sign with him and went on their way. LOL!

In hindsight, I think it is a mistake to say that the Klitschkos dominated a certain period or era in boxing. Vitali's best period was from the late 90s to the mid 2000s (Vitali was about 26 when he made his professional debut). Although he underachieved during that period thanks to his two losses against Lewis and Byrd, he was actually a more mature fighter when compared to Wlad, who suffered three losses against less fancied opponents (one of whom wasn't a contender at all, just a journeyman).

Wladimir's period of domination was from 2006 to 2015 during which he vanquished all opponents who were not related to him by blood. Vitali was retired for a good part of this period and even though he did have a comeback as an alphabet title holder from 2008 to 2012, he was in reality as past-his-prime boxer who failed to knockout a completely washed-up Shannon Briggs. So bad was the list of Vitali's opponents during this reign that he can make Wilder's title run in the 2010s look a bit more lustrous.

So essentially the era of Vitali was not the same as the era of Wladimir.
