He would have been well over 38. Would have been interesting to see where vegas would have set the odds for this fight.

Well Lewis knows he's in for the fight of his life, something he really didn't the first time around but Vitali did.

This is my highly questionable reasoning for picking Lewis; the first fight demonstrates that anything could happen.

I would comfortably but not definitely say Lewis again. He was getting up there in age, but the guy we saw in the fight was not the best version of the pugilist specialist even for his age, and he pulled it out anyway.

    Lewis was the better man.

Rubbish. He was a new father for I think the second time at that point, and was already winding down his career by reducing to one belt. He just made the decision that he didn't want to do it anymore.

And good for him. He is wealthy, respected, and has all of his faculties.

Lewis KNEW he would lose a rematch. That’s why he spent 8 months on the sidelines trying to negotiate fights with Roy Jones and Mike Tyson and then retired after Vitali was reinstated as the WBC mandatory following his crushing second round KO win over Kirk Johnson.

    Vitali wins.

Lewis fought his heart out and won the first but until Vitali's vision was affected Lewis was getting beaten up. There's a reason he never rematched and that's because he knew that he was facing an uphill task. He was willing to fight other guys but not Vitali.

I get tired of this discussion which appears every other week, but this response sums it up for me no more to be said.

Vitali fought one of the worst versions of Lewis who was out of shape, had a big opportunity to take the title from an aging great champion on a bad night and failed end of.

How about a prime Lennox Lewis in late 90s vs Vitali Klitschko what would happen then ? No one ever seems to make that thread.

So Lennox was taking Kirk Johnson (as well) lightly, then lo and behold, Vitali called in as a substitute and gave him a real challenge. Excuse for sub par performance, hadn’t trained properly.
Same excuse for Rahman loss, too busy filming a blink and you’ll miss me part in Ocean’s with Brad, to bother with the trivial matter of preparing for a second rater, thousands of miles away.
Previous to that, after the McCall defeat, “I didn’t take him seriously, won’t happen again!”

Steward did say at the time, he should have given Vitali a rematch for his, warning, grossly overused word about to be used, “legacy!”

Lewis blows caused all those terrible cuts on Vitalis face. Lewis would have made bleed Vitali in any case and won imo. The same he did with Tyson, terribly cut by Lewis in their bout.

Was he really trying to fight Roy Jones? Talk about an easy pay day with absolutely zero threat of being defeated.

I think what many people are overlooking is that Lennox took a lot of damage in that fight. More than any fight he's been in. At 38, would his body had completely recovered?

That is a very valid concern.

If we face the hard facts Lewis was shocking in the Vitali fight and still managed to scrape a win. Vitali's eye was ****ed and the fight was correctly stopped with Vitali up easily on the cards.
Lewis was a faded well past prime sofa king at that point, if the rematch happened he would have been stopped most probably no matter how much he trained he just didn't have it in him anymore hence why he retired.

What would it prove if vitali beat an even older version of Lennox than the out of shape version he already lost to

Viali was close to getting koed when the fight got stopped. Heavy leather like Lewis landed doesn't just wash of in a month or two, Vitali would have needed atleast 12 months to recover properly from that beating. And then there is the psychological edge, after having almost gotten killed in there the first time vs LL one can imagine VK urinating into his groin protector on the way to the ring for a rematch.

No way Vitali wins this one.
