How problematic are Walcott and Moore to Joe Frazier?

If we look into the career of Joe Frazier he beat a wide range of fighters in a career loaded with tough fights. So what issues would slick punching veterans like Archie Moore and Jersey joe cause Joe Frazier?

would the relentless nature of Joe Fraziers tireless rhythm present multiple opportunities for the tricks and skills of Moore and Walcott to exploit with their knockout counters?

Or would the breakneck pace and strength of Frazier break the two of them down in very short order?

personally I guess in the end Joe beats both of them. but I suspect, as there often was for Frazier, there is a measure of difficulty to experience along the way.

Joe Frazier is a fine heavyweight champion with a fantastic resume. And like most great champions much of his best wins were very hard fought.

So far as champions go, Joe did as much as he could in the era he fought in.

When he came to title contention Ali was exiled and the rest of the best were Ellis Quarry Bonavena Chuvalo. Frazier beat all of them ..plus Ali upon his return.

you can’t do much better than that.

Guys like Terrell, Liston and Patterson were beaten by Martin and Spencer whom Quary and Ellis sorted out and they both lost to Frazier so it’s not like Frazier desperately missed anyone.

It seems Fraziers clean out was quite thorough.

They would’ve given him serious problems. Maybe he’d have won. But they’d have given him serious problems.

I said in one of my first posts here … and as with that one I will choose my words carefully … I would never in 100 million years call Joe Frazier overrated, he absolutely was an all time great and he’s in my top 10, but I think folks on this forum sometimes go overboard with him like he was just this unstoppable, ever advancing T Rex with a left hook who all things being equal would chop down anything placed in front of him through sheer will, heart and determination, or die trying.

I think that sheer will, heart and determination, along with his always moving forward and swarming style … from the lay of this place based on looking through the archives, I think Joe probably would be the ideal fighter to a lot of folks here … his willingness to take punishment to dish it out, the fact that he shut Ali’s mouth in March 1971 and anger at the way Ali cruelly and unnecessarily abused him afterward outside the ring in ways that he not capable of responding to in that venue are behind the pedestal he’s placed on.

    Just my .02.

It's hard for me to see anything other than both of them being horribly swarmed, suffocated, broken down and knocked out tbh. No naturally smaller, boxing orientated fighter is beating Frazier.

My own opinion is, Jersey causes more trouble for Joe than Archie.
    Styles for me.
But Walcott still gets brutally stopped by the frantic pace of the smoke.
I see Frazier stopping Jersey in around 11.
Moore gets stopped around the 8 th.
Joe doesn't let him counter him, as say Marciano did.
Frazier's faster than Rock, he catches him and hurts him faster.

If Marciano beat both of them up with his swarming style, i don't see why the bigger Frazier can't do the same.

I don’t know if I can use the Bonavena comparison. Joe was pretty green in that first meeting. I’d favor Frazier to beat both Moore and Walcott but I’m undecided as to how competitive those fights would be

Only minor problems. Frazier stops both inside 10.

I wouldn’t bet on Frazier vs Walcott though JJ proposes a lot of issues for Joe namely Intelligence and power. The way I see Walcott winning if possible is learning on the job, Frazier was a very predictable guy and Walcott was smart enough to walk Smokin Joe into some real fat shots. Otherwise if Walcott can’t dent him enough or figure out Frazier on the fly Joe Frazier does what he does but loses the rematches. I think Archie Moore is much too dangerous a proposition for Frazier and I’d keep him well away, Moore would take him out Frazier is just too predictable for Archie.

I think they're made for Frazier and I feel as confident as I can be about these picks. Frazier KO twice. But yes, they're both superb and certainly would create issues for Frazier.

Incidentally, it's very hard to pick a version of Moore for Frazier, I think so anyway. Not sure which version you'd go for.

Frazier wins both with some problems but I think a prime Moore p4p would pick Frazier apart as he would have Marciano.

There could be a couple of bumps along the way as both hit hard with either hand and were sharpshooters that often came up with the punch from nowhere that wasn't spotted.

When the dust settles both would be stopped however.

I feel like Walcott doesn’t get the props he’s due. Prob often judged for his losses before he changed his career around. His list of wins is arguably better than Frazier’s as a whole. Frazier was more consistent for sure but at Walcott’s best he was a damn dangerous man w power. He was accurate and tricky. I’d still pick Frazier but wouldn’t be surprised if the Walcott form Louis 1 got a decision. If you can have a toss up fight w Louis go 13 w Marciano and have a lead beat the likes of Charles, Harold Johnson, Bivins, Elmer Ray, Lee Murray, Joey Maxim etc u can hang w Frazier.
