I think it was nearly all down to Sky and timing. AJ lit up the casual crowd who watch Sky on Saturday nights - they wouldn't have given two hoots if he was an Olympian and probably didn't even remember. It's not like when Audley Harrison won and set himself up as a BBC star virtually overnight - Joshua waited well over a year to make his debut but did it on decent - free - Saturday night shows. There is no doubt he's the biggest PPV star this country has ever produced but you could see that as payback in Sky and Matchroom's investment.
The biggest con job ever done on the UK public and absolute world class selling by Hearn. The bull just flows nicely with that posh voice leaving the public feeling they are watching greatness for a bargain PPV price.
A great salesman, a huge platform and a well-marketed heavyweight reading off a script. It was a piece of p-iss for all 3 but each needed the other. The platform needed a salesman, the salesman needed the platform and the fighter needed both.
Yeah they rode that post 2012 Olympics feel good wave perfectly. Every Brit athlete was getting rich off of that. Endorsements, TV appearances, fame galore. Joshua was in the right place at the right time. He had a (dodgy) gold medal, Fury went crazy, Groves and Froch ignited a passion in the British public for boxing and Klitschko was finished (but live enough that a win over him still had credibility). The stars couldn't have aligned any more perfectly. It makes me laugh when Bellew, Chisora and co go on about what a debt British boxing apparently owes him. He played his part but he was more of a beneficiary of the boom than the architect.
Yeah wasn’t it just ‘I like you’ type messages? Pretty harmless. Will check the interview out tomorrow but fair play if he challenged Frank, better than the ‘how’s your back’ , ‘the Arsenal are doing well’ that Umar dishes up
I don't have a crystal ball but pretty sure AJ Vs Chisora would get nowhere near 500k PPVs on DAZN and you have to be smoking crack to think otherwise
Nothing. I just found it funny the way Sunny exposed him doing it. Flexen was publicly shamed, and embarrassed by it- he took a break from twitter cause of it.
