Battle of (arguably) the two biggest hitters of all time. How does this one go? I lean, just, towards Baer, based on chin.

I think it’s basically anybody’s fight however I think it’s possible that Baer may have had the better chin and stamina. That might be the deciding factor

Max's chin might give him the edge, but it's really up to whoever lands first.

I think Baer bores in and Shavers knocks him off his feet

Serious Max was plain better with superior chin and stamina. More rugged as well.

I think Baers holds all the aces, that may include power.

    Could be a pick’em.

Baer has the better beard but perhaps that’s a moot point given Earnie’s power, which could spark Max as much as Max’s own punch might spark Earnie.

Both were not impossible to hit, Baer being that much less defensively adept. Could be 1-2 rd stunner for Earnie if he keeps it tight and concentrated.

However, if Baer can hang tough for 4- 5 rounds, a fatiguing Earnie might be looking at later rd defeat - but Shavers did hang tough for the later rd KO of Roy Tiger Williams.

I lean towards Shavers. He's got better technique and I don't fancy defending against him with your chin. That said Baer was more consistent in his career.

Shavers is actually the better technician here. Baer has the better whiskers but i remember Louis' power having Max quite shy.

Baer literally doesn't have any sort of decent jab and that's the punch the likes of Holmes controlled Earnie with.

I like Earnie in this one by stoppage. Baer's had enough by round 4 for me. Baer's best chance would be to drag him deep IMO but i don't think he gets there.

I’m going to pick Max here. You could outbox Baer but you couldn’t really trade with him. I don’t see Shavers outboxing Baer. And I don’t see Shavers beating Baer to the draw in a fire fight.

The punches Baer took from Joe Louis, and he still looked like he could get up if he wanted to, shows me that Max, even if he took a few lumbering blows from Shavers can take a better shot.

Whereas it would be goodnight Vienna when Baer hits Ernie.

I was on the fence but I'm favoring Baer after reading this. I think Baer handles Shavers' shots a lot better than vice versa.

Yeah, but Shavers was one brave guy, whenever he lost he went down fighting.

Perhaps just me but I think Earnie gets a bit undersold as a technician absolute, but that belief besides, I totally agree that he is the notably the better technician relative to Baer. Good point that Louis’ power had Max somewhat dissuaded.

But can we at least ALL agree that Williams, King of H2H, beats both in the same night? Choc, a simple yes will suffice - even if you don’t mean it. :)
