Why do people think Lennox Lewis had a bad chin?

I wouldn’t say it was BAD. But it definitely wasn’t in the ‘iron’ category either. Mediocre at best.

I actually think other HW champs had worse ones. Moorer, Berbick, Stewart and a few others.

As was I and as was Lennox, too! Without a doubt an extremely early stoppage.

Agreed, both Lennox and Wlad were better in the chin department than they generally get credit for.

Although, after LL got KO'd, he didn't turn into an octopus.

Mainly due to the one shot KO's he suffered but his chin was stronger than those losses indicate. He took flush shots from other notable heavyweights and was rarely seen doing the chicken dance. Other heavyweights had stronger chins but Lewis overall did not have a bad chin.

    This is factually incorrect.

Wlad was KTFO by two mediocre fighters in the early rounds.

I guess Wlad was more of a mid tier champion compared to Lewis but still his reign lasted a long time.

Partially because he fights featherfists, old men, and bums.

Right! In fact, was Lewis ever badly shaken or ever in serious danger, besides the 2 losses?

Uh, no, he wasn't. He stood up, was wobbly while he regained his footing, stepped toward the ref and put his hands up. then the ref stopped it. It is there on youtube. That is what happened.

The commentary…. There’s the sucker punch they were worried about lol.

Looking at it he is off balance and just before the ref grabbed him he started veering off to the right. After the ref had him he still seemed unsteady.

That being said I’d have had no issue had the ref let him try to battle back. Just watch and be real close once action resumes.

The problem with using Vitali as a measure is that he wasn't a big puncher for his size. Look how many shots Sanders, Chisora, Arreola, Adamek (a LHW) etc. took from Vitali without falling over. Plenty of fighters withstood a lot of shots from Vitali.

Lewis had a sub-par chin for his size. He was huge for his era.
