I'd disagree that has no technique. I think he has pretty solid fundamentals. He's just not particularly flashy but he has a methodical style which is clearly damn effective. He has a good jab, despite not having a very long reach for a light heavy, he throws this dashing in power jab, kind of like a shorter range version of Hagler's gazelle jab. He's very good at disrupting a fighters rhythm with his jab. He rarely just throws a punch for the sake of throwing it. He's quite happy to be patient and surprise his opponent with a sudden attack or wait for his opponent to lead, waiting behind his guard until his opponent opens up and then catches them in an exchange which of course with his power he's always going to come out on top. He's also pretty clever with his shot selection, varying his avenue of attacks so he isn't predictable. He's also pretty sneaky on the inside. He can throw short power shots even in a clinch and will also disguise an elbow thrown in after a punch. He knows how to control an opponent with frames, collar ties and posts too, using his immense strength to manhandle opponents up close. I also think he's an underrated counter puncher. While he'll never be a Mayweather in terms of technique, he's hardly some caveman type brawler.
Beterbiev is that good and Bookmakers seldom get it wrong as well as the fact an on the slide Kovalev knocked Yarde out with a jab !
I'm far from a boxing expert but his amateur pedigree and early fights showed me how underrated of boxer he is before the Gvozdyk fight.
Underrating the skills of the likes of GGG, Kovalev, Beterbiev, Bivol etc. has been a recurring theme. Hell, that clown Shakur even said recently that Loma is pretty damned limited when it comes to skills. That's the level of ignorance, insane bias, and idiocy I see so often. You just can't take these clowns even remotely seriously So many obviously underrated Usyk's skills too or they wouldn't have been so certain of AJ beating him. But what happened when they fought? Usyk put on a sublime display of boxing skills and one of the, if not the, best the HW division has ever seen in a David vs Goliath match up Beterbiev obviously isn't as skilled as Loma or Usyk, who are clearly and unquestionably two of the most skilled fighters in the entire sport and both deservedly former or current P4P#1. And despite what that grunting featherfist weight bully idiot Shakur says, Loma is one of the most skilled fighters ever. Period. But Beterbiev does have skills and he can box too.
If Beterbiev didn't have skills and power, why did Ward avoid him when the unification was there? Why did Canelo ultimately avoid him? Why was Bivol on video telling us how dangerous he was? Why can he match it with guys like Usyk and Kovalev in the ams? It's just like with Golovkin. So many of these 'warrior' boxers avoid the most dangerous fighters and then people complain about the 'thin resumes' of the fighters being avoided.
Well, he knocked down and beat Usyk in the amateurs. So yeah he's complete trash. Glass Joe's one win in Punch Out was against Beterbiev!
You said it, Shakur saying that & similar stuff about others fighters in the past, the common theme in all those statements is that the fighters mentioned by him were not of a certain ethnicity or you can even say in this case being nationality, Because in their limited closed minds only they are able to be the special chosen ones!
I just remember seeing a fight in the amateurs between usyk and Beterbiev and at the end of the fight usyk looked pretty damn pleased it was over with. Says it all really
