I stand corrected, when I said Holman Williams was 2nd highest fighter on my p4p list to never receive a title shot, Bivins is, pretty sure Williams would be 3rd. Lloyd Marshall another fine figher
Sadly far too many to mention. Names that immediately spring to mind: Peter Jackson, Harry Wills, Murderers Row. Patrick "Packey" McFarland.
McFarland got a shot vs Welsh. By all accounts he was robbed by the official draw verdict. I agree with your other suggestions. The murders row may represent the 4 x boxers I rank highest who never got a world title shot.
Harold Johnson never getting a shot at the HW title is shocking to me and hasn’t been mentioned. He beat multiple number ones over the years
you got a note pad? damn near any contender from the world's greatest boxing nations... the BUSINESS of Boxing CAN'T and Didn't allow all great fighters the chance!!! Now, in their, the Business Owners, defence, it is impossible to have competitions that all could have possibly competed in... Now, in their prosecution, they are Gulity of Much Corruption, Exclusion, Theft, Cheating and Exploitation. the BUSINESS of Boxing, has given us relatively few greats... the SPORT of Boxing, has given us Thousands of Great Fighters.
Yes I remember him, he was a professional fighter when he fought Patterson. Neither Savon or Stevenson turned pro so any possibility of pro matches without a pro licence were dead in the water.
Savon's career was; 1985-2000 Some of the ranked pro fighters during that time slot include; M Spinks Moorer Dokes Bowe Ibeabuchi Tua Lewis Byrd Tubbs Berbick Tucker Ruddock Tyson Holyfield Weaver Coetzee Holmes Page Williams Witherspoon V Klitschko Since you state Savon would beat 99+% Which single fighter, which 1% would beat Savon not be able to beat? Stevenson's was 1968 -1986 Ranked pro heavies during this period included; Frazier Ali Ellis Quarry Foreman Bugner Coetzee Thomas Weaver Douglas Williams Bruno Tubbs Shavers Holmes Tate Liston Norton Tucker Young Lyle Cooney Witherspoon Page Berbick Again which 1%, which individual boxer would Stevenson not defeat out of those I listed?
Good points mate! This is what I was discussing in a thread I did about the many weight divisions. Some replies pointed out some UK fighters would have ripped it up if there had been "in-between" divisions then as many had to boil down to a lower weight or fight heavier guys. In one sense more titles and divisions makes it more likely for a good fighter to win a title and get a decent pay day. On the other hand the titles are valued less.
