This is one fight that may have been a shocker. Plans to fight Toney fall thru for champ, Michael Nunn.
Nigel Benn is the ideal substitute.
We know what happened against Toney, but what's the result here.?
This is Benn, after his loss to Eubank.

Wouldn't surprise me if Benn pulls off an upset like Toney as well. By the time Nunn fought Toney he had already been lackluster in his previous fights and also chose to fight up close more often, which is a big no-no for a puncher like Benn.

Nunn at his best would outbox Benn though.

Benn is not in the same class as Michael Nunn, for me Nunn wins a clear cut decision.

Benn is not comparable to Toney, Benn doesn't have anywhere close to Toney's defence, skills, chin.

That's why I picked that version of MN to be honest. At that time in his middle weight career, that's the best chance of Benn getting a lucky shot in.
Even then it's still all against Benn, but he does have that power.

I still pick Nunn but if he gets careless or silly..

Nunn stops Benn late or scores a wide UD.

I see Benn mostly following Nunn around the ring on the end of Nunn’s jab all night and losing a wide decision. His ultra aggression works against him and he’s never been one for cutting off the ring that I recall … not that Nunn is a dancer but he knows how to keep and measure distance.

Im thinking Nunn unless Benn lands a bomb and Big Benn's him ala Toney...and Benn certainly had the power to do that. He took out Barkley, something that Duran and Hearns failed to do.

It's a risky fight for Nunn. Yes he's above Benn in skill sets in a few ways, but if he survive being nailed there alway a chance with a guy that hits like Benn.

Benn could take him out, indeed.

Not a great style match up for Benn, Nunn’s jab and ability box at range should see him to a decision win or possibly late stoppage.
However nobody is going to have an easy fight against Nigel Benn and it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if Benn pulled it off.

Yes Benn has the punchers chance of course.

Michael Nunn by decision. I don't even think he would've had a punchers chance TBH. That's not how Toney knocked Nunn out (he set a perfect southpaw trap), and then even after that Nunn was never stopped again. Nunn would've picked Benn apart from the outside IMO
