Your overall comment doesn't tho. You were actually answering Pat's post and Joe Louis wasn't mentioned at all. Lewis and Ruddock were and you addressed them both specifically in your reply so Joe Louis wasn't remotely in the conversation. Check it again. Post #20 and #21. I don't see how Louis and Lewis could have been mixed up. At any rate i firmly believe you are overrating Galento's power regardless of abilities and intangibles. He's a big hitter but he ain't Lewis big that's for sure.
My posts were 19 & 21, yes I see Lewis was mentioned: & I was thinking of Joe Louis, my bad. In post #19 I was addressing the prior comment that was comparing Ingo's power to others, as in the thread title. Why are you sure Galento did not hit as hard as Lennox? The only thing that got him very far was great power. Sometimes a fat 'lil (in height at least) man can hit tremendously hard. It is possible that although Tua, of similar stature, carried a higher proportion of muscle, that Galento hit about as hard. There was a tale around here of an ancient retired Galento bending a heavy heavy bag almost in half with punches. True or not, there are freakishly powerful guys that are unimpressive athletically. Louis said he needed to get Tony out of there-after he was dropped- "because he hit too hard". EDIT: but we both can agree that this (I underlined it) answer is amongst the most stupidest (sic) ever... One that was dished out in 2007 i reckon, which is when the post you quoted was made. Wilder hadn't even had a pro fight.
Saying he doesn't hit as hard as a 6ft 5 240+ pound Lennox Lewis whom one historian says has the most devastating right hand in heavyweight history isn't overly taking credit away from him tho. you could sit one or two levels below Lewis and still be a big puncher.
Yes history is littered with non descript types being huge punchers - they come in all shapes and sizes. Just weeks ago i did a thread asking for huge punchers bracketed via three specific body types, or such. At any rate i don't rate Galento on the Lewis level. I've seen their fights and for me he ain't at that level. He's also not on Tua's level for mine. Of course pitching and punching are different things. Tony was a big pouncher but i'm not prepared to put him on ATG punching lists personally. He didn't make Rings 100 Best Punchers of the last 100 year list and plenty of one trick ponies were on that, and pretty high too. Not the be all and end all but lots of different things add up as a good guide.
I think they’ve always been (in love, that is). And why not? In boxing, Ingemar was the Alpha and the Omega. In bed, he was the Karma Sutra from A to Z. In his wake, many a woman was left feeling Thor after he had entered their hallowed halls with his earth shaking, leg trembling Hammer. A mighty Swede with that dimple in his chin (when he only had one chin). Rumour has it that he also bagged Elizabeth Taylor without having to endure a marriage to her. Smart man our Ingo.
Below. Liston, Foreman, Tyson, Shavers and Lewis. Lower than lots of guys. Ingo could hit tough. I give his power a solid 8.5 to 9.0 out of ten. He is not a 1 punch KO type of guy.
TOO late. You've now opened the portal to HELL. Among other ghosts of the forum's past, MoneyTheMan, eyes half rolled up, has already begun slowly shuffling his feet back here.

NOBODY hit harder than Galento, John. He weighed two tons. Size=mass=velocity=force. EMC=RUN+DMC squared. Energy is power. Newton said that. I don't even have anything to add to this, really. Roger Stone has informed me that there's one above the White House too. In The Americas.
