I’d say Wladimir. Some people will scoff at that but Compare Larry’s title defenses to Wlads. Look at many of the names on Larry’s resume. If you were to Match up Ibragimov, prime Chagaev or prime Pulev against the likes of EVANGELISTA, Bey and Lucien Rodriguez… lol come on man.

Please don’t even mention the Ali ‘title defense’. That was an Ali that shouldn’t have even been licensed to fight. And even besides the title defenses, prime Byrd would have been a handful for anybody Holmes fought and likely would have outboxed the vast majority of them imo. Now Holmes did beat Shavers twice and beat Norton and that is impressive. But there are not enough of those type wins to edge out Wlad here.

Simply look at the names on Holmes last 25 wins and compare them to Wlads and ask yourself how they’d have done against Wlads last 25. And prime Wlad isn’t getting beat by 205lb Spinks twice either.

I think it’s actually close but Wlad edges it.

Also add to the fact Wlad had 23 total title defenses. Holmes had 20. Wlad has an Olympic Gold medal also.

Probably Wlad but tbh idk most of the dudes on Holmes resume. They both kind of suffer from the same issue where there weren’t great prime HWs in their era.

Holmes without a doubt. He has Norton, Ali, Tyson, Shavers, Holyfield, Spinks, Witherspoon and of course Butterbean.

I'd say Holmes. Norton, Shavers, Weaver, Berbick, L. Spinks, Cooney, Witherspoon, C. Williams, Bonecrusher, Mercer. is a better list of wins than what Wlads got imo.

neither has great resumes though, its their long reigns that earned them their legendary status.

    What everyone has said.

Not to mention Wlad should have been DQ'd at least 4 times for his blatant fouling.

Wlad easily. Holmes cv had multiple Ls on their sheets for most. How anyone can bring up Tyson btw, Holmes emerged with minimal credit from that. Ali was a complete shell. Norton would be destroyed by Klitscko, along with little Leon, Berbick and washed Shavers. Nah. Holmes wasn't knocking these guys out by the way. He was sneaking past most of them on an SD.

Wlads TEN year plus reign eclipses Holmes.

Wlad “ran the show” for one of the longest periods in HW history

Holmes but its not nearly so wide as some are pretending.

It is almost sad that some have mentioned Leon Spinks, Cooney, and Ali's ghost as some kind of king-making wins.

Guess you've never seen an Ali, Holmes, Ruiz, Fury, etc fight.

This and add to the fact that during that 10 year reign, Wladimir might have lost under 12 rounds total. Think about it! That’s dominance!

Weaver, Berbick, C. Williams, Bonecrusher Smith… are better than Prime Byrd, Haye, Povetkin and Ibragimov??? lol Nah. No sale.

And you mentioned Mercer… Wlad brutally stopped Mercer. Yes it wasn’t prime Ray but he wasn’t shot either.

you mentioned the best of Wlads resume but left out the best of Holmes'.
Norton Shavers and Witherspoon would make for a better comparison

And Mercer was 41 when he fought Wlad. Almost the same age Holmes was when he beat the thirty year old Mercer coming off of a brutal career best knockout win over Tommy Morrison.

Win over Ali trumps everyone on Wlad’s resume. I never understood why ppl have such a hard on for Wlad, he was lucky he was in such a weak era.
