I think we need to define who is European. For example, does the fighter need to be born in Europe, or just grow up in Europe, or live in Europe as an adult during their boxing career, etc?

To be defined as European or anything else for that matter surely where you were born should take precedence. There are lots of fighters who are naturalised citizens etc in other Country’s and as such some have dual Nationality’s. For example Lewis being born in West Ham,London then moved to Canada so has both British and Canadian Nationality .

The simplest way to determine it would be via your genes. Let your race determine your nationality. However I guess this wouldn’t work either as there is so much immigration now someones family may have lived in somewhere like Spain for 100s of years but there great ancestors came from Morocco or something.

Greatest European HWs, based on what they achieved in their own era (i.e. not factoring cross era H2H) excluding active fighters:

    1. Lennox Lewis
    2. Wladimir Klitschko
    3. Vitali Klitschko
    4. Max Schmeling
    5. Ingemar Johansson
    6. Tom Sharkey
    7. Alexander Povetkin
    8. Primo Canera
    9. Peter Maher
    10. Tommy Farr

Fitzsimmons would be #5, if considered British rather than an Aussie
