Now he will be able to solve the riddle that is Demsey McKean. It was a true 50/50 until James got onboard. But with a tactical masterplan now in the offing, I'm pretty confident Joshua - with a 12-week training camp - will get the 'W'...
Well. I probably think it's too late to change a lot in AJs game but Derrick James is for sure one of those guys who could potentially bring out the best out of AJs abilities. James is a wizard with young and upcoming boxers. So it'll be interesting to see what he can do with a vet like AJ. Probably the best decision AJ could make at this point in his career.
Hope AJ makes sure there's no other voices in the camp. He needs to follow this decision 100% and not undermine James by retaining other coaches. One trainer, one set of directions and one voice to listen to in between rounds. Has James trained any heavyweights of note?
James seems like a good coach and all but his claim to fame is a couple of guys in the lighter weights, why not find a trainer that have experience with the heavier weights? Anyway, I hope it works out and we get to see an aggressive AJ instead of this passive point fighter we got in the last couple of fights, because that guy sucks.
Derrick is a protégé of the late great Curtis Cokes & Top trainer of the year. What a resume huh?? If AJ gives 100% to this it could be the difference he needs. He keeps changing trainers as though its their fault though kinda like Miguel Cotto was
It has been noted by many that AJ has improved with each loss, looking better & better in the return bouts. Of course he couldn't beat Usyk 2nd time round, but he seemed to improve a bit. If he's continued to work in the gym and has stayed dedicated, he may surprise us, you never know. I personally hope he continues as long as he can and fights a lot, we need fights.
