I am so grateful to have witnessed the days of Roy Jones Jr in his prime. It wont be witnessed again

It really isn’t much different than modern day testing. You can buy your way out of specific tests and have a doctor mask almost anything.

Mastered everything except the basic fundamentals, hands up defense, and craftiness. Hopkins, Glen Johnson and others had it and had longevity in their late 30's and beyond. Roy's abilities took a dive from a cliff, and he never recovered even after he came down in weight and stabilized. With that said, I'm not attributing all his skills to peds, but it damn sure helped turn him into superman for a while and flaws were masked by that.

Lol have you ever watched a prime RJJ fight? He could do it all, jab, stick and move, fight on the inside, fight on the outside, throw fast combinations and could punch with either hand. He had these gifts all of his life, he won the Val Barker trophy as a teenager at the Olympics for goodness sakes. He was the p4p best boxer for over a decade, I’m not sure what you mean by longevity, he was so good that he was often bored and unchallenged during his bouts that he decided to fight in an extremely unorthodox way to entertain the public. I’ve already said he most likely used roids/peds to move up to the heavyweights since it was always his dream to become HW champ. But attributing his super human skill to peds is just dumb, again the man always had his gifts. He was in his mid 30’s by the time he started losing and suffered some nasty knockouts that he never recovered from.

We've already seen another Barry Sanders. His name was Adrian Peterson.

He was great but his style and weight issues post heavyweight were never gonna favor longevity. Tbf, to credit his skills to just PEDs is also disingenuous as we would've seen more like him if it was just that. Not excusing that btw.

If we being honest, ppl from further generations are gonna look at guys like Mbappe, Stephen Curry, etc and wish they could've seen them in their primes too. It's how every era us that respects the past. I would've loved to see Gavilan/SRR n something as recent as Tyson in his prime for instance.

The simple fact being that there are more steroids/peds available and more being created in labs than what the testers know of so don’t yet have the testing available to find them. Testers a lot of the time are playing catch up .

In hindsight I bet Roy himself has pondered over that one a few times .

What he should have done was take one last fight against Lennox Lewis before finally retiring.

Yeah he would have got knocked out, but he was playing with house money by that point and no one would have held that loss against him.

    Peak Roy Jones was untouchable!

I'd add to your list: Bo Jackson, Lawrence Taylor and peak Gronk

Or just get yourself a TUE like Mayweather did when he fought Pac-Man. Mayweather merely he said was dehydrated and was granted use of an IV drip . TUE should be banned imo so everybody on a level playing field but there not, so if a fighter has used a TUE the opponent should be notified straight away .

    What a pile of cringe.

Roy was more athletically gifted with cat like reflexes than a boxer

Yea, I watched most of his fights live. Also learn to read dumbass, just in my post you quoted, I said "I'm not attributing all his skills to peds". It damn sure helped though. Also I was young at the time and like a lot of people infatuated with what he was doing and not necessarily seeing everything into perspective like I do now. I can now see the whole career, I can analyze the opponents, and see how his fundamentals looked while he slowed down. I lot of things were exposed, not only was he proven user, but also fought a lot of B & C level opponents that made him look great. I also understand that people decline in their mid 30's but he fell of a cliff, where he had no punch resistance what so ever. His fundamentals were pretty bad too when his reflexes slower too unlike some other fighters. I will stick to what I said, it looked like ped's ravished his body and there are consequences and side effects to using. Did I like Roy in his prime, heck yes. Do I like him as a person now, heck yes. Do I respect his career now as much as I did in the 90's & early 2000's? No.
