This one is hard to say because I’m a GGG fan but imo he wasted too much time in the amateurs and was avoided by the big names for quite a few years which didn’t allow him the opportunities to show what he really had while he was still young enough. He beat some good fighters but not any great fighters because the fights weren’t made when he was still younger. He has some really good but not great wins and his defense record is good but lacks the better quality of opposition he should have had, had he not been avoided..when I think ATG middleweights I think of Greb, Walker, SRR , Monzon, Hagler.

MW is really deep. For me, when I think of ATGs, they are always guys that fought really stiff competition. They fought other ATGs and slightly less great and excellent fighters and very good fighters and good fighters and fair fighters and garbage fighters.

I don't see anyone special on his list of defenses. The Canelo fights were close and I think Saul ranks as a good fighter, nothing more.

Edit: I should say 2 of the Canelo fights were close.

There are a number of MW's from the 70s and 80s...........and 90s that aren't considered ATGs, or even in the HOF but I humbly feel should be, Golovkin, due to this era's criteria will get into the HOF, he is definitely not an ATG.

For those that consider Bernard Hopkins a ATG MW i challenge you to go back and look at his MW only resume. You’ll be surprised at how similar he and GGGs resumes are. If Hopkins is considered an ATG MW then GGG is since he should at least have 1 win over Canelo. I was not and still not a GGG fan as I believed he didn’t want to fight Charlo or Andrade. But I have to be real.

Look up Haglers struggles to get anyone to fight him. It’s very similar to Golovkin.

I’ve said that as well. His best wins are against 2 blown up welterweights. Then you factor in that he fought 2 guys 5 times.

    I absolutely love GGG.

However due to the wording of this poll I did not vote.

Best fighters of all time had legendary careers where they fought the best.

Sadly Golovkin never had that, his best wins only came when he was on the slide yet still won. (Won Canelo 1 & 2 in my books). Golovkin was avoided until he got old.

Fantastic fighter ( H2H monster ) however history might or might not be kind to GGG.

I kind of lost respect for him when he lost both fights against Jermaine Taylor. Looked great against smaller great fighters, but seemed to come up short against fighters his own size.

He moved up to Light Heavyweight and beat top class fighters so your point is a bit baffling.

That ko run, ruling the division with an iron fist for several years and the top guys in the division earns him a mention along with the other ATG's of 160.

A blown up Welterweight who had actually campaigned at Middleweight prior to Hopkins fight, looking devastating in destroying William Joppy who was a champion and world class. Trinidad was also the betting favourite vs Hopkins, and highly rated P4P being rated number 2 at the time, and was also undefeated at 40-0. Hopkins win over Trinidad blows any victory Golovkin had out of the water.

So which welterweights should Golovkin have fought? Which 2 guys should he have beaten 5 times?
