I remember him being interviewed years ago he had a nice car but his house was a terrace. Admittedly in London which means he could sell it and probably buy my street in Lincolnshire
He deserves better than to become a punchbag journeyman. Surely the BBoC can revoke his license or something? He's probably not getting paid much at all for the fights either. Like most sports, boxing needs to help protect older/retired fighters and provide better aftercare as he obviously does not know what's best for him.
I suspect this will be fought under the banner of an "exhibition" , thus dodging any official sanctions. Exhibition fights don't really stop your brain from being rattled however, and judging by the bloke fighting him, and the line "he won't hear the final bell" he seems to believe it's some kind of achievement, to beat up and knock out a near 50 year old, severely damaged fighter, so I doubt he'll be pulling his punches, which to be honest, I find utterly sickening. I agree with the sentiment though.
His opponent has the perfect opportunity to end this. he should pull out and point out what is obvious to all that DW should not be allowed in a ring again for his own safety. But instead he will brag to anybody that will listen as he tells them this guy KOd mike tyson and i beat him. Sad all round.
As I've said many times on this forum, Danny Williams is one of my favourite fighters of all time. It breaks my heart to see him now. I still remember seeing him running around training in the streets of Brixton when I was younger. Such a lovely guy, would talk to anyone. Was over the moon when he beat Mike Tyson, was happy to see a good, solid fighter finally get some recognition that he deserved. I still remember that fight, myself and my old man (god rest his soul) were cheering our heads off watching it!! Used to speak to his wife from time to time who would give me updates on Danny but I haven't seen or spoke to either Danny or his wife for years now. Danny would of wiped the floor back in the day with all the people he's fighting now. I think it's disgusting how they agree to fight him. There was a open letter in boxing news a couple of weeks ago urging him to retire. I really hope he does, before it's too late. He has a beautiful family that love him and he has plenty of fans that care about him and hate seeing him go out like this. Danny Williams is a legend. Always has been, always will.
Fantastic and heart felt post. Can only echo the sentiments. I remember watching him on telly medal at the Commonwealths as an am. Well done Potwash.
Great post and from the heart as well. Spot on when you say it is disgusting how they agree to fight him. they should show some respect instead of hitting him. they should show even more respect by saying no if offered the fight. if not they deserve the beating they at some point will get themselves the shithouses.
