Any news/updates? Talented fighter no doubt but far too inactive over the past few years, heard rumours of a Liverpool show in March?
He's fighting on March 11. Original opponent was supposed to be Lyndon Arthur but seems like it will be someone else now. After this fight he'll be mandated to fight Beterbiev for the WBC Title. I think Buatsi and Bivol could be fighting in May / June.
Yeah, was thinking the same. Maybe if CEJ wins against his brother the could try and avenge him and fight at SMW
No chance Callum with fight at SMW again in my opinion. He has earned a fortune already (especially for such a low key fighter) and can make big money at LHW too. He needs a good opponent and a proper test rather than a pointless 4-5 round tickover, as assuming he will fight Beterbiev and not Yarde with how inactive he has been since the WBSS he needs a fight that gives him the best chance possible against Beterbiev. The Arthur fight was for me pointless, Callum just blasts him out in a few rounds. I hope at 175 which is a much more natural weigh for his frame and size (IMO he's so big he would not look totally out of place at CW) the hope is a far better hydrated Callum Smith can take Beterbiev' s shots otherwise I fear for him body shot wise as he is such a big target and Beterbiev is so compact I see him getting cut down and stopped. I thought Buatsi had turned down the Bivol fight? I give him next to no chance based on his shocking inactivity and seeming apathy about his own career and prospects in the sport. Buatsi is extremely talented, superb natural ability but a lazy fighter who is content to cruise- earn some money, disappear for year, fight only on his own terms, take as little risk as possible along the way... Barely fighting once a year, and fighting opposition 99% of which is levels beneath you is no preparation for Bivol!
None of them have any chance against Beterbiev or Bivol. They should step aside and fight eachother instead. No doubt that wont happen though and they will hold the division up
I’ve not seen much of smith at light heavy. He had heavy hands and a solid jab at super middleweight but I remember him getting hit far too much in the super 6 he was in. Unless he works on his defence he will get beat by the likes of Beterbiev and Bivol. I can see him doing well at British/euro level though. He needs to be more active
one of the few highlights of last year’s boxing was when Canelo tried the bicep punching thing on Bivol, who instead of freezing up like Callum, just stepped back and hit him in the face lil Saul thought he had solved boxing with that trick
He looks good at 175lb. Is big for the weight and carries power. I think it will be Arthur, then title shot
He knocked a guy out really convincingly at LHW, worth a YouTube look just for the knockout mate. Not saying the guy was a world beater but was a really good punch.
Watch his last fight would be my recommendation, hasn't changed much. Was very open at times and he did get stunned once, he looks improved offensively as he's putting more into his shots and clearly weight isn't affecting him as much. Looks like he's got his power back as a result but imo he stayed at SMW far too long. Against the top heavy hitting LHWs he's going to get chin or body checked sooner than later. He's a good finisher so in some bizarre fashion if he hurt Beterbiev I could see him winning, outside of that and Beterbiev aging overnight, I expect he'd get grinded down in that fight. I don't think Smith has actually fought a world class operator near there prime in this career to date and won or been competitive outside of fighting Canelo. I remember him still against Skoglund who, if had any offensive capability would of won that fight. I think he's been extremely fortunately with who he's fought when he's fought them, if you look at his record it's all over the place. I mean he best fielding and Mahoumadi (decent enough wins at the time), then his next 3 opponents were inexplicably levels below, get he was biding his time for the WBSS but still...then he wins the WBSS and fights n'jikam next then by the fans loses to Ryder. Just a very odd career.
