May twentieth, either at Madison Square Garden in New York or T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, or in Saudi Arabia. The fight is official and the venue being whittled down between those options, per Arum.

6th defense of the WBC lightweight title and second of the WBA Super/IBF/WBO/Ring magazine lightweight titles by Haney. Lomachenko is the Ring Magazine, TBRB, WBC, and WBO number one ranked contender at 135lbs.

The champ has a 1 or 2" height (depending on which reports you believe, I am inclined to go with the latter) and 5½ reach advantage. He also has remained unbeaten over the course of 10 more pro bouts than his twice-defeated challenger. Lomachenko however brings the greater amateur pedigree, at the risk of understatement, with a record of 396-1 blowing away Haney's own respectable 138–8, not only tripling his prolificacy but clearing his rate of victory at 99.7% versus 94.5%.

    Common opponents:
    • Jorge Linares. TKO10'ed by Lomachenko in 2018, UD12'ed by Haney three years later.

Haney by clinic using his jab. I want Lomachenko to win but he is too small. Unless Haney has problems making the weight, he should win this on points 116-112 style.

...honestly, IDGAF what other fights get made involving Tank, Kingry or anybody else - this is going to be the net highest-skilled lightweight match-up of 2023, bar none. Purist's dream really. Two completely different styles of top shelf boxer, the better one (IMO) handicapped by dint of being smaller & older. Can't wait. :ggg

Loma has nothing to fear in terms of power, it might take him a round or two to get the timing down, but once he does, he walks down, dismantles, beats up and stops Haney with relative ease. Before the protestations start coming in.... I think people really need to remember this little detail. Loma was injured going into the Lopez match. People do not get surgery immediately following a match, just to propagate some pisspoor excuse. He thought he could close strong and get Lopez out of there, while taking as few risks as possible, in an effort not to exacerbate his injury, and lose by TKO because of it. While Loma came roaring back, it was too little too late, his strategy failed. Now, what does a healthy Loma do to Lopez? A compromised unhealthy version swept 5 of the last 6 rounds, arguably did enough for a close win or draw, because I see an argument for Loma winning the 2nd and 6th. So most people's pre-fight thoughts would in all likelihood, have panned out.

The Jamaine Ortiz match was not very close, at worst it was 116-112 for Loma. This is an Ortiz that handily beat Herring almost as one sidedly as das wunderkind Stevenson. Loma walked through Commey and Nakatani and barely broke a sweat. As far as Kambosos vs. Haney goes, I thought he could get the win, since he proved to be fairly adept on the backfoot and able to make adjustments on the fly. But, that only applies to the backfoot with George, frontfoot, he has the ring IQ of a cross eyed gnat. However, on the frontfoot, Lomachenko has an incredible ring IQ, especially when he doesn't have power to fear, as far as the holding goes, Loma is incredible at nullifying that, there's no one who's ever been able to effectively tie him up. The only thing that happens is Loma slips out of the hold, which leaves them slightly befuddled and then he catches them on the way out of the door, usually with a combination. There's nothing Haney does well that Loma hasn't seen countless times before. The angles and footwork of Loma will make Haney look like an amateur and ill prepared to defend against everything coming his way.

I'm not absolutely in love with how Haney do what he do but I think he should be the clear favourite here.

    Interesting array of confident opinions.

In accordance, the poll is deadlocked so far at 4-4-1. Curious to see if that pattern more or less holds as the voter sampling increases.

Haney UD. It won't be close. Don't be surprised and don't call me out on that prediction at the moment. Just wait for the fight & result. Haney is a Welterweight fighting at Lightweight and Loma is a Featherweight fighting at Lightweight. Yes, Loma fought bigger guys before but Haney is by far the biggest and most skilled fighter in combination Loma has ever faced in his career. The size difference will be comical comes fight night. Haney will do a number on Loma and the funny thing is that there will be a lot of clowns who crying robbery afterwards lol. NO, IT WON'T BE A ROBBERY. It'll be a crystal clear Haney win. Most likely by a few rounds. 117-111 or 116-112 type of a fight.

    I like Loma by SD.

While Haney can punch in combination effectively, he relies more on 1-2s (jab/straight right, straight right/chopping hook etc). That, coupled with Haney's relative lack power, should allow Loma to find his groove offensively a little sooner since he won't be dissuaded as much by the power or volume of the incoming.

Has Loma seen it with someone that's the size of Haney? No one at 135 has a similar style. Loma has trouble fighting dudes with longer reach. He's going to have time a hard time figuring out how to get within his range. Haney can maintain his distance by backpedaling and jabbing. He has enough power to keep Loma at bay and will hold and reset any time Loma comes close. It's going to be a difficult task for Loma. Now if they were the same size i'd agree with you that Loma would be favorited since his power would be even worse and he wouldn't have a reach advantage.

Sadly I can't see Loma winning this one, Haney is alot bigger and longer and Loma has slowed down to the point where I can't see him being able to offset the disadvantages enough. Also, Haney will probably be favoured on the cards if it's close. If Loma pulls this off though, would be one of my all time favourite wins.

Loma hasn't slowed down that much, don't you dare make that excuse for him.

It's not an excuse, he will be 35 years old by the time of this fight and is also fighting above his natural weight class against a guy who belongs at 140/147. It is fair to say he is past prime at this point and this is a very difficult matchup for him.

He hasn't slowed down that much. He's just fighting bigger dudes with power. He destroyed Commey and Nakatani because that style is easy for him. If Loma loses to Haney at 135, no version of him he beats 135 Haney.

That's just you trying to make Haneys resume look better than it is.
