Yes and I wouldn't rate Tarver quite on the same level as Foster, Spinks, regarding one punch KO power. Although Tarver is a good puncher actually underrated he had some good KO's. How much people figure into weight loss and age regarding Jones's KO loss to Tarver, or how much Jones's punch resistance was effected is up for dispute. But considering Jones didn't really fight any KO artists at Light Heavyweight in his prime. And we don't really have any evidence of Jones taking hard flush punches in his prime, I would say it's a very bold statement, to say Jones would clean sweep entire Light Heavyweight division past/present.
He wouldn't, only a Newby to the sport or a blind ass Jones Jr. Fan would think that way. Jones Jr. Was an extraordinary talent. That's not a discussion but a fact. Yet he never faced anyone the level of Charles, Moore, Foster , or Spinks . Tarver and others demonstrated Jones didn't have a great chin, though when he started getting ko'd he was past prime. Yet Ali didn't get ko'd when he was past prime, neither did Hector Camacho, it means that was a flaw that was hidden by his extraordinary gifts. For anyone to think fighters as skilled and powerful as a Charles or Spinks or Foster wouldn't be able to eventually exploit, and reach Jones Jr, even the in his prime version is just wishful thanking in my opinion. Jones would get ko'd by many ATG Lt.heavies. And just some very good ones too......
It's not that cut and dried. There's been examples of even great chins suddenly not being able to take it anymore. It happens.
So this is guys who could make the limit-but do you mean to rank them by what they would do at a max imum of 175 DAY OF THE FIGHT? Besides the specific weight they must qualify for-so if RJJ was in the 180's IN THE RING as a SMW, then we should detract points because he likely would be less effective at 175? Also how much is how good they woul be hypothetically head to head, vs. how good they were historically at 175 as a max?
mcvey this time there is no comment from you-I thought you would have accidentally buried it within my quote-I I see in the next comment you gave me 175! If so, I remind everyone that 175 AT the actual fight means you usually need to DOWNGRADE you assessment of guys at LHW for the last 40 years. Why? Because we can presume that almost everyone weighing in then was more than marginally heavier in the ring. And their in-ring weight would usually be there BEST weight for the bouts. So an RJJ at SMW who may have been 15 ls. heavier during the fight? He would not be as good at 175. HOWEVER you might rate some at SLW & many at MW at 175? because they could have been ~ 175 in ring weight. Sometimes men at SMW/154 would rae ighly too: since they might be ~ 175 in ring! Capiche?
Nothing controversial about that decision. It was just a close fight for Roy who sg the time never had a close fight. He won that first one
