It's unfortunate that people remember Tito for his blunders at the end of his career when he was just a shell of himself. If Spence was fighting in the same era as Trinidad we would remember him just as much as we do Oba Carr. If Spence's resume is thin at welter in 2022, what would it look like with De La Hoya, Quartey, Mosley and Trinidad in the mix?
What Trinidad did to Vargas is more impressive than any one thing Spence has done in his entire career. His form in that fight and what he displayed is also more impressive than anything Spence has produced. Against, arguably, a better fighter than Spence has ever beaten. Then factor in Trinidad is as big or bigger than Spence, factor in Spence will be standing in front of Tito, factor in Spence doesn't have the type of power to keep Trinidad off him or the speed to keep Trinidad wary. This fight is an easy call and the way Tito is getting underrated in this thread is crazy. And for the record, Winky Wright beats Spence too.
Trinidad KO's him probably inside 6 rounds. Spence is used to being the bigger welter but Tito was bigger at 5'11 and also had the reach advantage. Spence is also used to breaking fighters down late due to his physicality but Tito was also down to breaking fighters down late in fights, while Spence was drinking and driving fast cars in his spare time Tito used to run marathons. Tito had faster hands, both were open to be hit clean, but difference was Spence is just a decent puncher, Tito was a destructive puncher who ended careers. I see the fight being a shoot out and the bigger, faster, harder hitting Tito has the edge. If Spence can't take Bud's power he'll have no hope vs Tito's. Both like to come forward, I see Spence being overwhelmed by the power and being forced back and we all know he can't fight on the back foot.
It's always easy to spot the guys who just started following boxing 5 years ago. What an idiotic statement. Trinidad would wipe Spence off the face of the Earth. Vargas stops Spence, let alone Tito.
He might beat Spence as Spence's style is not good vs Tito. I find Tito overrated though. I have no problem with him losing to Hopkins and Winky but it's the way he looked. Completely inept. Compare that to Oscar. Oscar was stopped yet didn't look like a total amateur chump vs Hopkins. Tito was dominated in such a ridiculous manner by Winky's jab. I have no time for him.
I probably did get this one wrong. You are always spewing hyperbole though Anyway, Tito is very overrated and I have seen very few supposedly great fighters look as inept as he did in some of his fights.
There's never been an elite fighter in the history of boxing who looked as inept as what we saw on Saturday. It's just foolish to keep referring to the Wright fight. Trinidad in 2005 was a shell of the fighter he was in the 90s. There's no hyperbole here. Trinidad would violently KO Spence. The Vargas part isn't an exaggeration either. Prime Vargas would beat the Hell outta Spence.
