I thought Eubank would massacre Benn. I’m now thinking it would be a good fight…

Bizarre career and been poorly managed. Contrary to perception I don’t think he ‘bottled’ harder fights but you can only imagine he/ his team weren’t easy to deal with. When I realised it was a mess was when he had 10 months off after the Degale fight to take on Korobov on an US undercard! Which was always going to be a stylistic nightmare and he’s lucky Korobov hurt his arm. I think Eubank was going to have trouble with anyone with a good jab who can manage range. But his physical and athletic attributes coupled with a good chin would have been sufficient for him to have a prosperous career.

I’m almost certain the loss last night was related to the weight making. Trying to get down to 157 then hanging around at the weight when he’s been at 160 for a decade. Ridiculous. When he could have made 160 he wanted to go to 168 and when he should have moved to 168 he’s stuck around at 160.

The best thing he can do now is either retire or have 2 fights at 168 against British title and European/world level and then challenge for a world title. It’s impossible to know unless you are the fighter or very close to him but having seen that last night there is no way Eubank was anywhere near 100%.

I don’t buy into everyone saying his chin is now cracked. He didn’t see the punch that did the damage coming, outside of Alvarez and GGG there aren’t many middleweights taking that uppercut and not getting hurt.

his fundamental flaw is to not allow a trainer to guide his career properly, he needs to set the ego aside and just do as he’s told for a time. Adam booth may be a good shout as I think he’ll take no **** but Eubank needs to go into training knowing that.

I don’t want to take anything away from Smith, he did what he had to do, there have to be some questions around Eubanks weight though given he’s never been put down like that before let alone by a light punching 154lber. Smith was sharp and on point, the better man in the ring no doubt, bullied Chris around in there, even a 191lb groves couldn’t do that to Eubank.

which makes me think this was a weight drained Eubank in there. The cut to 157 and prolonged brain dehydration for that Hearns blood money has taken its toll?

His career has been the opposite of badly managed. The guy has made more money from nothing fights than many make from world titles. I’ve long felt his aim was not titles but to make as much money while taking as little damage as possible. If that is the case he should get out now.

I’d say that’s the entire aim of prizefighting no?

Trying to be RJJ did more damage than the weight loss. It looked unnatural and he was so open.

Only RJJ can fight like RJJ, to implement that sort of fighting style on other fighters was never going to work.

this is just nonsense tbh. ‘Nothing fights’ include bouts v Groves, BJS, Degale, Abraham, Yildrim, Smith, Williams, Korobov and several good European and British fighters. It’s a fallacy that’s he’s fought nobody and just took money spinners.

He was always going to make money because of his father, his persona but also because he actually could box a bit. But the last 5-6 years he’s been all over the place. Periods of inactivity trying to move up in weight then back down again, chopping trainers/promoters. Just a mess with no plan. Sure he made a few quid but I think he could have done that anyway with a plan of fights. People want to watch him so he was always going to get paid!

Did eubank jnr actually start his water cut for benn? I keep seeing it thrown about as an excuse that the benn cut took it out of him, I can’t remember exact dates they were fighting and when benn got busted but I think it would of been before the actual cut?

Didn't you see the picture he posted on the day of the fight? He looked like a corpse.

He's very fortunate in that he has a big payday or two left to come which will set him up for life if he's been sensible with his cash.

However, whether he wins or loses those fights means little because he's going nowhere. He was never good enough to win a world title and now he's on the slide. When was the last time he threw a fast combination? At least he was entertaining to watch when he threw combinations. His entertainment factor looks gone now too.

I'm no hater. He's been entertaining in the ring and he's a tough man but I don't think he's got much left to offer the sport. He'll get his big payday or two and retire IMO.

Looks like two nasty Elbows set Chris up for the finishing uppercut .... Of course it is a fight.... doubt Chris will complain
Anyone else notice? it looks bad when slowed down..... Trying to be as fair as possible any other thoughts on this or opinions
Not wanting to argue .... Others may see it totally different
