Yeah, it's just an exhibition bout over in PNG, maybe June/July.
I believe contracts are to be signed next month.

You had a great vantage point Steve, in hindsight was a great era of Australian boxing. We seemed to have interesting fighters in most of the traditional weight classes. Even had a glut of decent heavyweights! ESB Aussie forum was popping!! Always something to talk about. One didnt have to be in the industry to know what was going on. It was all over the news media. Mundine kept it in the headlines, and the other good local fighters just went about business.

I cant get excited about Justis Huni. I think its time to say he cant punch. Gallen was a punching bag and Huni struggled to put him away. Ive seen huni dropped in sparring vs a Light Heavy,.... and he wouldnt beat Jimmy Thunder in a spelling contest.

Tim Tszu is interesting, though i dont believe he is going to be competitive vs the best in his division. Its pretty stacked with talent. I wish him all the best, and he may yet prove me wrong. Kambosis did.

Who else is there? Like really?

I think to be fair to Justis, he did re-injury his hand early in the fight with Gallen and fought much of the bout with one hand.
And a similar thing happened halfway through the Kiki Leutele (sp?) bout.

I agree with you on Tim and will be really interesting to see what happens in March if he fights one of the top guys in the division.

But I am very interested to see what happens with both Justis and Jai now that the D&L shows are no longer being shown on Main Event/Fox.
Maybe they both fight overseas and gain exposure that way....who knows??

Needs to beat Conor Wallace to become the best in the country & Jerome Pampellone to become the best from this region.

Do that & then we'll see about world titles. He did get the Olympics spot ahead of Pampellone & faced the gold & silver medalists from the world championships the previous year to get there so he's not without a chance of knocking them off. And he can punch.

Both Wallace & Pampellone are with another promotional outfit though so not sure how fights with Aokuso happen in the near term.

Any world title shot after 5 fights would need to be for an IBO world title.

Very quiet summer for Australian boxing once again. March should be big though.

The two-Tszyu show should be on then (presumably for an interim WBO world title against a name opponent) & Justis Huni is intending to resume also. Not sure if he's recovered from a hand injury or intends to battle on carrying it. Hopefully the former b/c you wouldn't want to see him in with some of the opposition they've got lined up unless he's fit & healthy. Still interested to find out what platform he will be fighting on. Jai Opetaia must be back soon as well. Slick Willie fights soon so that will open our account on The Boxing Scoreboard for 2023.

    I agree with Middy.

If DL can get the coin together later in the year they should target Parker.

A settler in co-main to Opetaia, Terzievski if he can beat Django (which im not picking) and then possibly Parker.

Zhan Kossobutskiy is a damn risky fight. Actually straight up think it's a potential career killer. Don't know why Lonergan thinks that a smart move.

I like the idea of targeting Kazakh heavies - they're high quality, won't cost as much as other heavies of equivalent ability to bring out here & are likely to be willing to travel. Only problem is b/c they're good, they're going to knock your head off unless you're top class. I think Huni is but the hand injury is a concern. There was plenty of talk that it was the same injury as last time but now they're talking about him resuming in March. They may feel compelled not to take another 12 months off to get it right. Particularly if Foxtel / Main Event have bailed out on them.

Justis Huni beats Joseph Parker. Too fast & skilful for him. Bring that one on after Huni has rissoled a Kazakh or two. It's time Australian boxing assumed a pre-eminent position in relation to heavyweights from this part of the world. I'm calling the outcome now - Kiwi down!

Speaking of Kiwis, did anyone notice how worked up they became when Demsey McKean was mooted as a potential opponent for AJ? They fair flew for him at mere mention of his name. Sure, he's not top of the pecking order from this part of the world in so far as H/W's are concerned but he's a top 3 H/W in this country. AJ is ranked about third over there in Britain atm behind the likes of Fury & Joyce so I can't see what the problem is.

    Top 10 Australian heavies (imo);

    1. Justis Huni 7-0(4) - If he can put the injuries behind him & his chin holds up, will become world class. A couple of big 'ifs' but it's going to be fun to see how high he can climb.
    2. Big Daddy Browne 31-3(27) - Anyone he hits cleanly goes to sleep. Simple as that.
    3. Demsey McKean 22-0(14) - I'd probably favour 4 on this list to beat him & 5 would be a very live opponent.
    4. Joe Goodall 9-1-1(8) - Talented, but needs meaningful fights to develop further.
    5. Django Opelu 15-3-1(11) - Good fighter who will fight anyone. Some of those big name overseas heavies who are sitting on their backsides should give him a call.
    6. Kris Terzievski 11-1-1(8) - Australian champ.
    7. Willis Meehan 12-0(10) - Very talented. Would like to see him in with some of the other names on this list.
    8. Teremoana Jr 4-0(4) - The second most talented heavyweight in the country but can't get fights.
    9. Toese Vousiutu 4-0(4) - Strong as a bull & very aggressive.
    10. Jackson Murray 4-0(4) - The 4 and 0 guys may need to fight each other in order to find willing opponents.

Australia versus New Zealand in the Heavyweight division:

Demsey McKean UD10 Kiki Toa Leutele
Big Daddy Browne KTFO1 Junior Fa
    Django Opelu TKO4 Hemi Ahio
Justis Huni UD10 Kiki Toa Leutele

If Justis Huni beats Joseph Parker, it's a clean sweep. :number_one:

    Great news.

Harrison comes with some risk but he is the right opponent to ready Tszyu for Charlo.

No AFL on that weekend and only Tigers vs Knights at Leichardt and Dragons vs Titans at Kogarah. 4pm and 6pm respectively.
So should get a decent crowd and enough of a T.V audience available to get some solid PPV figures.

Do they test the waters with a stadium fight like at Commbank @ Parra or Allianz @ Moore Park? Or is that to ambitious.

It's ambitious but they'll probably go big in Sydney. Take Tony out to the Wild West. Can't see Melbourne or the Gold Coast being preferred. It's up to Michael Zerafa to deliver big numbers in Melbourne against Triple G while Queensland is reserved for Justis Huni & Jai Opetaia.
