He was unable to stop the cruiserweight who had his first heavyweight fight against Parker, especially when we consider that Massey is not a top fighter...
Most likely. I dont think you can argue that, but hes fought some of the best fighters of his era , and has been in alot of tough fights that took alot out of him, as you can see. But Massey isnt a bad fighter, he had skills and was tough all night, nd won some rounds.
I think the issue lies in Massey fighting a very negative fight, similar to Fa. Lots of holding. Doesn't help that his team seem to want Parker to come in heavy for knockouts which results in Parker gassing too quickly and being too slow. Needs to drop that weight and go back to stick and moving.
Totally agree apart from a controversial decision vs Andy Ruiz, Joseph Parker has always failed when hes stepped up to the next level. But yet theres some people who think Joyce is some H2H GOAT now, for beating a shopworn Joseph Parker who's not even top 5 Heavyweight.
Still plenty for him to offer the division. Yeah, his days at the top are probably over, but there are plenty of fights out there for him.
Even as listless, half-hearted and disinterested as Parker seems, he still manages to hold his own or do enough to win against most opponents. So it's not that Joe Joyce beat him that everybody was amazed by, it was the fact that he dominated almost every round and brutally knocked him out that was the impressive part.
Looooool parker unable fo stop a barely european level cruiserweight. It that was okolie, riakphore or billam smith, parker would have been beaten.
Yes but I still don't see why this forum has gone into frenzy, and thinks Joyce is some H2H GOAT for beating Parker. I mean the manner in which Joyce won was impressive, but still Parker isn't one of the top 5 Heavyweights, nor is he one of bigger punchers in the division. I find it crazy people think Joyce beats the likes of prime Tyson, prime Foreman, just based off beating Parker. Who is solid fighter but not one of the very top Heavyweights, and is probably a bit shopworn now aswell. I want to see more evidence of Joyce's chin, against one of the bigger punchers in the division like Joshua, Wilder, Zhang, etc. Because let's be real Joyce has virtually no defence at all, and honestly i don't think you can be a top fighter without some defensive skills.
The bit where parker's legs buckled for a mo in the first round got me. Average joe is done done, he did well in the game considering his ceiling, he went way above it for a brief moment there. Time to call it a day, we don't want to see fighters hanging about fighting meaningless fights long after their cooked. Next....
He does have defensive skills. I'm not gonna argue he takes flush shots - and this could be an issue against better fighters, agreed - but he also deflects and rides a hell of a lot more. Watch him throw a jab and witness a small half-step and lean back almost as he's throwing it to mitigate replies. He's very good at that. So he does have defensive skills, albeit a little more subtle than is easy to identify. Agree, Zhang and Wilder would be good fights but Joshua won't go anywhere near Joyce. The gas tank and chin mismatch makes it a horrible match-up for Joshua...
He never got started.I don't think itis the heart, he was just overrated. Struggled against his sparring partner in new zealand and he had a competitive fight with fa that the ghost of lucas brown put away quite easily
Good post on your part but as I said I'm not ready to jump on the hype bandwagon just yet. Whilst the manner of victory over Parker was impressive, as I said Parker is not one of the very top Heavyweights nor is he a banger. It's one thing to walkthrough Parkers punches, then another thing to walkthrough someone like Joshua, Wilder, Zhang, taking their punches flush on the chin he could come unstuck. Again I just want to see more evidence of his chin against a legit puncher in the division, then I can really make a judgement on him.
