It's better than losing them. In all seriousness though it is a lot harder to win as the away fighter.

Most fighters get judged by the names on there record. Away wins should mean more definitely.

Of course there is added credit given when you beat someone in their backyard.

However, boxing is a business and typically the one that puts bums on seats gets to decide the location. So for a star to get home advantage, it wouldn’t diminish his achievements if he beats good fighters as from a pragmatic view it wouldn’t make sense to fight away.

Cant' beat a road-warrior. Glen Johnson, Lennox Lewis, Oleksander Usyk. What's not to love?

This was always something I factored in when discussing Joshua.

I’d argue he has never genuinely fought as the away fighter, even in the US or UAE and as a result had every single marginal advantage possible.

You’d never see Joshua doing what Usyk or Fury have done by taking risky fights as a true away fighter.

its add massively to a fighters legacy

Though can understand why some fighters swerve it considering the chance of corrupt judging judgeslike in Liam Smith-Kurbanov, Martin Murray- Martinez, Fury- Wilder 1. They tried to rob Josh Taylor in the Ramirez fight too.

I remember when Johnson was world champ I was watching some lower card boxing and he was helping in the corner. What a humble champ. Proper road warrior too

Meh it all depends on performance really. Is Froch legacy tarnished because he lost to Kessler and Ward away ? Probably not because he put in decent performances against both. Same with Hatton to Pacman and Mayweather. Equally if you look at say a Chisora vs Helenius or Murray vs Martinez/Abraham we all know they won those fights. I really dont think its that important, its like a cherry on top of the cake. Good but i know 99% of what i need to know. Also i will never criticise a fighter for fighting away, AJ for example dodnt need to go Saudi Arabia to fight Usyk but he did.

good post. as much as I'm a Joshua fan you have to admit hes had everything his own way with the opposition venues judges refs and everything man. A Wilder win in the states would be awesome for him

Well i would point out the 2nd Usyk fight, he wasnt truly the home fighter and everyone made Usyk favourite. Also tbh he has never had to because of the marketing machine behind him, regardless of ones views on him as a fighter why wouod he go and be the away fighter and earn a fraction of what he could as the hone fighter. Fury (who i believe is the best HW right now and in my top 10 list of heavys) was kind of forced to go on the road because -

    1. Klitschko was the dominant champion and far more money invilved in Germany than Manchester at the time.
    2. Once Fury beat him his own personal battles (which convinently timed up with wild boar incident but thats another thread in itself) stopped him from capitilising on his success.
    3. Wilder in the US again is a much bigger draw that Wilder Fury in the UK. Mainly due to PPV markets.

Yeah agree man thats why i have to admit Joshua kinda suffers here wont find a worse loss than that Ruiz one. Usyk and Fury would beat him with one hand lol (Ruiz i mean)

Not sure thats true tbh in terms of how easy it would be, i believe that would beat him but Ruiz is an underrated fight. He beat Ortiz and for my money beat Parker whilst fat and this was the Parker that everyone saod was gonna KO Joshua at the time.

lol ortiz is said to be 43 but is most likely older. Ruiz got the knockdowns but lost everything else hmmm. He was put down by 41 or 42 year old Areola . Parker sucks man come on you cant bring that up like it means something only means something if Parker got smashed up like Joyce did

Parker regressed and was less motivated after the Joshua win and then taking the Whyte fight on short notice. Ruiz lost all motivation after the shock Joshua win. Either way, Fury deserves respect for going to Germany and the USA and beating two undefeated champions.

think you got that wrong way round tbh Parker looked anything but motivated against joshua but then looked very motivated against Joyce he gave everything and still got bloodied to a pulp it was a good watch. Agree on Ruiz but he also looked not great in most fights before beating Joshua just not a very good fighter had his moment in the sun.. kudos to the dude
