I don't really like these lists. But i've DONE one. You do one now. 01 - Sugar Ray Robinson 02 - Roberto Duran 03 - Ray Leonard 04 - Muhammad Ali 05 - Floyd Mayweather 06 - Pernell Whitaker 07 - Manny Pacquiao 08 - Roy Jones 09 - Joe Louis 10 - Carlos Monzon 11 - Marvin Hagler 13 - Julio Cesar Chavez 14 - Tommy Hearns 15 - Michael Spinks 16 - Ruben Olivares 17 - Rocky Marciano 18 - Salvador Sanchez 19 - Wilfredo Gomez 20 - Vicente Saldivar Obviously this is primes, and obviously, it is heavily footage orientated. I think that guys like Kid Gavilan and Tony Canzoneri genuinely might belong but there isn't quite enough footage for me. Maybe a better way to say it is that these are the top twenty fighters i've ever seen p4p by eye for whom there is enough footage to make me comfortable about my feelings - so prime for prime all time p4p on film. In fact, i'll change the title I think. No, that's too long. Who needs out? Who absolutely should be going in?
How can Duran be too high p4p head to head if Leonard isn't? Duran is locked above Leonard. Duran's best p4p performance was at welterweight beating Ray Leonard, 12lbs above his natural weight division.
I am especially fond of 15-20, i think while i agree and am not much a fan of 'top 10s' and things like it, I think you've picked just the right guys for those spots. I can imagine a lot of exclusions you made may have made came down to two or more fights with the same style but one man in particular just seems to do it best. This is how I feel about Marciano > Frazier. Which is no disrespect to Frazier, he just has a lot to compete with and for all the flak he may get, Marciano did know what he was doing inside the ring. It's almost always apparent that if Tyson isn't in someone's top 5 then he is not on the list. I'm sure you've explained it a lot over the years but what was your reasoning for excluding Tyson? Between Tyson or Patterson who do you rate higher P4P?
I think Frazier could beat Marciano. But who is going to beat Marciano around his weight? Nobody by boxing. Nobody by boxing.
If this is just H2H, I'd add Tyson Fury. The dude is a ****ing giant and has incredible speed and boxing skill for his size. He's a literal cheat code.
So if we shrunk him down to the size of Roy Jones - quicker but even less power - you think he's out-boxing Roy Jones?
Fury would'nt even make an ATG Great List among Super - Heavyweights, which IS the Poorest EVER Division in Boxing History. he is a 3rd Rate fighter, Period!
It's hard to see anyone outboxing Roy Jones, so no. But I can see him giving literally any heavyweight in history a hard time. Also, I would add Harry Greb and Sam Langford as well. I understand that you said your list was mostly footage oriented, but if he judge strictly on P4P, those two can whip anyone their own size or, in many cases, bigger.
Yes, but he's bigger than all of them. You want him to be on the twenty greatest fighters by eye of all time at boxing. You want that, you need to do a bit better than bullying a load of smaller guys... How can I list Greb by eye?
Fury didn't just bully manlets though (well, for the most part), he outclassed Klitschko in a technical fight. Same with Wilder, but that's not nearly as impressive lmao. And if we go just by eye, then I still think Langford deserves a mention. I can't see many people beating him at his own size\weight, and that's judging from what I've personally seen from him.
