Does Jose Napoles merit consideration in your opinion?

139lbs age 28, I consider him small for a WW, yet he was dominant there. Twice beating a fighter as good as Cokes in barely competitive contests. Napoles looks great to me on film too.

Jose Napoles and Emile Griffith aren’t here? Why?

I’d take him over Leonard and Duran honestly. Just something special.

Yessss, definitely definitely could be included. What do you think? Would you have him above or below that other forum favourite Luis Manuel Rodriguez?

The guys who aren't on that list who could be are:

    Kid Gavilan (footage?)
    Carlos Ortiz
    Archie Moore
    Alexis Arguello
    Fighting Harada
    Emile Griffiths
    Evander Holyfield?
    Luis Manuel Rodriguez

Oleksandr Usyk will have to wait for the Tyson fight, but good grief.

I'm not big on H2H tbh. I predict too many actual fights wrong, even when they have recent common opponents, to consider H2H anything other than idle speculation (not trying to sh*t on your thread btw, it's good fun), especially from vastly different eras.

However, as you've asked and Napoles and LMR arent from vastly different eras, I'll speculate.

Griffiths was prime vs LMR and past prime vs Napoles, so I cant read to much into it. But, on the basis the worst I would make Napoles vs LMR prime for prime at WW is 50/50, and i consider LMR the bigger WW, on a H2H P4P (is that a thing?) list, I'd pick Jose.

Hell yes it's a thing! But it's not a serious thing. I think I agree that Jose would be the highest out of these.

Yeah, I'm pretty satisfied that Charles isn't going to beat Marciano, Dempsey, Holyfield, or Louis best-for-best based upon the footage we have of him at the weight we see him, which I'm satisfied means he's not a pound-for-pounder. So I'd be given to taking Moore off rather than adding Charles.

Not enough quality footage of him not getting beat for me.

I'm more convinced than ever that I won't do a H2H list. I'd tie myself up in knots. I get your logic, you're only going off footage you've seen, which is fair enough. Charles beating Moore comprehensively in their series, when at 33/34 and with c.100 fights I have a hard time seeing Moore as green, suggests you'd rank them otherwise if more footage existed.

Oh yeah defo. If there was more KG footage you'd all be way angrier at me. I might be ducking my KG ranking with the footage excuse.

I'm not getting into how Charles would do against those guys, but I will ask, how do you think Michael Spinks would do against them? Surely that methodology would also disqualify him. And personally, I think it would be more prudent to take into account how he'd do at 160? I'm satisfied he's as good as anyone there was if he can beat Charley Burley on two weeks notice. And what about at light heavyweight? Surely he's at least among the top there too.

The footage thing is a fair point.
