Crawford turns 36 this year. He'll get rightfully s*** on in every discussion he's in in a decade. He wouldn't if he had a loss. Same with Spence.

People don't forgive era defining fights not happening, especially when it comes down to some nonsense like "live gate concession stand transparency" or something like that.

Compare this to a Vlad Klitschko who was HATED during his reign and lost to a few lesser fighters, but ducked absolutely no one and aggressively chased every challenge he could for almost two decades.

Not bothered to spend my life figuring out who is ducking. The fight didn't happen.

Thanks for reminding me that I forgot to block you.

Losing a fight shows you attempted to get in the ring and try to win, but ducking implies you were too scared to try and hurts ones credibility more. That's generally speaking, but there are some exceptions where losing can be worse than ducking. Particularly this is true when your a massive favorite going into a fight and end up getting destroyed instead.

One example is Tyson. He got a beatdown by Douglas, who by all accounts was mediocre at best. He did okay against the guys Tyson previously beat, yet upon beating Tyson he was then promptly disposed of by Holyfield for a rookie mistake. For someone like Tyson to lose to Douglas in the fashion he did...that hurt his credibility by a heck of a lot as it was primarily what led to his intimidation aura disappearing. Had Tyson simply ducked him for whatever reason, he'd have been better off.

If you run towards the smoke you risk death

But if you run away from it mark my words you will be haunted for the rest of your days by the ghost of your own cowardice

I choose life over death because I'm not a bloody idiot

I ain't afraid of no ghost

Very true, fighters avoid lesser fighters for all sorts of reasons. Usually they get a pass unless that fighter is seen as a legit threat. If AJ had of passed on the first Ruiz fight no one would have thought it cowardly as it would have been seen as a mismatch anyway, but it will seriously tarnish Furys reputation if he avoids Usyk.

I mean tbh losing a fight is worse for a fighters career. Literally can end careers.
