McCallum was too versatile to be offset by just Winky's hard right jab. Unlike Tito, he would attack from angles and not just stand in front of him. Unlike Shane, he had the size and strength to not get pushed around by Winky. Another thing about Winky was he could be hit to the body because of his high guard. That's not a good thing against the body snatcher. I see Mike countering Winky's right jab with his straight right to the body.
@AwardedSteak863 - good analysis, imo. Both Vargas and Simon - regardless of how one scores those fights - were able to give Winky close fights by targeting the body and keeping high volume up. Winky was the best Super Welterweight of his era, but I think Mike's versatility and adaptability gives him pretty clear edge.
Yeah McCallum with his angles and bodyshots, would be the perfect tactic to penetrate that stonewall guard of Wright. And whilst Wright may of not been at his absolute peak vs Vargas, he still had success going to the body of Wright. I feel like overall McCallum has the style to beat Wright, and he just has a few more dimensions to his game I like McCallum by UD.
McCallum is too complete of a fighter even for a technician like Wright. He had everything in his tool box to break down and crumble Wright's high guard. It'll be similar to his fight against Michael Watson.
McCallum would be too precise with his punch selection and the body work would be an X factor as he wouldn't just hammer away at Winky's high guard and tire himself out. If Winky gets loose and can stifle McCallum, and McCallum's pace slows, then I can see Winky taking over and winning. I'd favor McCallum mostly with more consistent, accurate work at all ranges.
McCallum by majority decision. This thread was done before. Please don’t give us the dreaded Floyd Mayweather vs Jose Luis Castillo 1 poll yet again.
