I like peak Floyd versus moderately past it Holmes. Sluggers were Floyd's kryptonite so Larry isn't getting Floyd out of there early. He's going to have to go the distance.
Larry is thirty six years old in this scenario and Floyd is a thousand times the fighter Ossie Ocasio was.
Funny, Ali (who according to Shavers and Norton hit harder than Holmes) didn't bounce Floyd off the canvas or even put him down once.
I don't see how an aging Holmes beats a prime Patterson. People in this thread are overestimating the former and underestimating the latter. This puts pretty much the worst version of Holmes up against a guy who would be much faster, hits a good bit harder, and is technically skilled. I have Patterson via UD.
The Patterson glass jaw myth persists, he doesn't have an ATG chin either. But Patterson's ability to survive and recover can't be underestimated
Patterson did have a glass jaw when it comes to heavyweights, but his heart can never be questioned. I can never see Holmes keeping Patterson down.
I think Patterson wins there's a reason Holmes wasn't taking on dangerous opposition at this time, because he knew he was slipping. A faded Patterson was able to compete with the likes of Ali in their 2nd fight, and give fighters like Ellis, Quarry, and should of had W over Ellis and atleast 1 win over Quarry. I think a prime Patterson with his speed could beat a fading Holmes in 85.
Floyd's hand speed would really bother the aging Holmes. Patterson by close UD. Now a 30 year old Holmes? Whacks Floyd out around the 10th.
