If you think about the contenders for that title, by intuition, the top few choices would be guys beating guys smaller than them moving up, like Ward vs Kovalev and Wangek vs Choc. I'd say Mayweather vs Canelo was the best of the 2010s.

That's precisely why I say Kovalev KO's him brutally. He's always been far too easy to hit, Kovalev's insane herky jerky rhythm back in the day would allow him to virtually tee off with one twos, just how many flush rights could Beterbiev actually take?

I picked Kova to beat Ward the first time and also called that he would knock Ward down once. That fight always favored Kova imo, and that he failed to win the rematch (which I then picked Ward to win after seeing the momentum of the first fight) actually underlines his lack of greatness, imo.

But yes he beat Ward in the first fight barely, imo.

    Beterbiev would have stopped Ward.

True, but what happens if beterbiev lands flush? Kovalev was never known for being the most durable dude. He's not packing glass, but he's not Marvin Hagler either.

I do believe Beterbiev would have beaten Ward and I made a thread saying that before Beterbiev even won a title. Styles make fights.

Kovalev, Ward and Beterbiev were 3 very high level fighters. They make very good fighters look ordinary.

Hey, Kovalev took Pascal's haymakers much better than Marcus Browne did. However, Browne took everything Beterbiev landed better than he took Pascal's haymakers.

Pascals tough, sure... and 50 year old Hopkins is a spoiler, I get that.

But I'm supposed to believe Beterbiev, who will absolutely have Kova on the back foot constantly, won't make it as far as tough Pascal? Because... why...

My point was that nothing about Kovas career or Vievs suggests Kova blasts him out early or mid.

I honestly think that Beterbiev would send prime Kov home in under four rounds 100 out of 100 times. Consider not only Kov’s shaky jaw, but his 100% rate of wilting under pressure and not being able to take body shots. Honestly the worst possible opponent for Kovalev (who was a pretty good, not great fighter in his prime)

Beterbiev' defense relies on how well he can take a punch, its always been that way with him. His chin has got him through some scary moments for sure, but a Prime Kovalev would whoop Beterbiev. His jab was as stiff as his straight right, and he has better fundamentals than Artur imo. Beterbiev best bet would be to corner Kovalev and unleash an onslaught of heavy punches on Kovas body and hope he can break him down that way.

That was not deliberate at all. Yarde was already going down and Beterbiev has already commited to the punch. You can't predict the velocity at which someone is going to stagger on fall.

To Beterbiev's credit, he didn't throw any rabbit punches at all today

Both fighters put up a heck of a fight. Both went up a notch in my book
