I would actually prefer no commentating. Would also prefer a quicker turnaround on fights. We really don't need the waffle in fights or in between fights. It was over an hour on Saturday between the last fight and the main event... I'ld extend that to football too...
We regularly see Toe Haye type pundits who are well paid to hoodwink the viewers on why many one sided contests are huge tests for example. Far too many pundits across all sports and they should get rid of most of them. Would not be surprised if most of them get paid more than many of the fighters in the ring.
BT easily have the worst production come Fight Night, out of the big 3. Their MC is pony as well, as is the bird they’ve got doing the interviewing…
There are flaws in all the big three with biased commentary on Sky Sports, lack of undercard coverage on Channel 5 and some of the complaints above re BT Sports. I just focus on watching the fights and treat the rest similar to advert breaks.
oh f*ck me Treiber how could I forget? he’s clearly a guy from Basingstoke or somewhere putting on an accent right? Antoneeeeeeeeee…YOOOOOOOAAARRDE
I didn't really get your list of BT complaints but this one I'm totally down with - can not stand Treiber's MC voice. I'm sure he's a good guy and all that but he's rotten. I quite like Dempsey, Bunce is what he is (but nobody doubts he's a boxing man, not just in it for the celebrity / money / etc). BT's ringside interviewer is awful. Woodhall and Fletcher are decent commentators, Frampton is good when he's on. At least neither of them are BT shills, they're just honest commentators and not there because of the promoter either.
Dempsey likes the sound of his own voice too much. Treiber's tone is awful for an MC. He adds nothing to the experience and doesn't add any hype to the actual event.
On the MC's, fair play if your're getting Lennon or Buffer over then that's great but they seem to think every MC has to be American now, as if it adds some sort of gravitas. A bit daft as some of them are pony! The one at Eubank v Smith had the Liverpool 1996 FA Cup suit on ffs
I very much agree with your considerations. BT Sports boxing commentators are very honest and are not there to please the promoter as we experience on DAZN UK. Speaking of DAZN UK : Where is Chris Lloyd ? I remember Eddie Hearn praising Chris Lloyd and calling him a future star in sports broadcasting.
Has anyone else noticed the latest trend of different 'guest' commentators just randomly appearing for a fight or is it just me?. Off the top of my head I'm thinking Groves, Haye, Ebanie Bridges, Skye Nicholson. It comes across as if they're at the event as a spectator and get approached last minute to jump on commentary.
