But they’re not Lewis’s league in terms of skill and pedigree.

Lewis in dominating fashion by brutal KO.
Too big and strong, and with the skillset to exploit that.

I didn't say that they had a chance against Tyson.

I invited people to consider the proposition that some of them might have done much better than Spinks.

I will throw a thought experiment at you.

If the only light heavyweight champion Joe Louis ever fought, had been John Henry Lewis, it would be easy to think that he would do the same to any light heavy.

John Henry Lewis was an all time great light heavy, he had never been stopped in over 100 frights, and he was a going concern on paper.

Current Light Heavyweight Champion, and ranked Heavyweight contender.

Then Billy Conn comes along, and destroys that narrative.

Do you think there's a fighter in history that would still be competing and ahead on points after 12 rounds vs prime Tyson, whilst weighing under 175lbs?

Louis is no Tyson, therefore the comparison doesn't hold water.

I fail to see how that would render the comparison irrelevant.

Much as I like and respect Louis for me it's Lewis if he's focused and properly prepared. However, if he does not take it seriously or is careless Louis could stop him.

Simple, it doesn't hold water cause Louis is nowhere near as good as Tyson.
Louis is far more beatable than Tyson.

Even if you are right, and I don't think you are, it isn't really relevant to teh point that I am making.

My point was that if the only great light heavyweight that Louis had fought was John Henry Lewis, it would have been easy to draw the conclusion that he would probably have done more or less the same to Billy Conn.

By the same token Tyson beating Spinks the way he did, doesn't necessarily mean that no light heavyweight could have done better.
