I think you may be referring to the Shannon Briggs fight. Briggs speed troubled Lennox early, but by the end it was clear that Lewis was the stronger of the 2 and could hold Briggs punches better than vice versa. Given Briggs KO'd 37 out of his 67 opponents (admittedly many lacking in quality) in the 1st round, that alone should dispel the myth that Lewis had a glass jaw.
Ah, the .5 poster - you just want to be exclusive. I’m changing my vote to 7.75. But then I’d have to round up and be alongside Magoo at 8. Maybe I’ll just go the whole 9 for Lennox. Surely no one will want to stand atop that lonely mountain with me.
Are you sure that's your final answer to the last decimal place? Great cue for a musical interlude: - This content is protected
It depends on the type of shot one is hit with, the angle it comes from, where on one's face does it land, how ready the said boxer is for the punch etc. All these variables make a huge difference.
You literally based that off his era rather than your actual feelings towards his chin. If Lewis fought in the 60s, you'd call him a glass chinned bum.
6.5 he was hit flush by Mason, Tucker, Bruno, Mercer, Tua with a few left hooks, Briggs, Vitali, etc. If hes chin was that bad it would've been found out in those fights. I'd say his chin is slightly above average is about right, but his recovering abilities from getting floored maybe in question though, I'd say fighters like Holmes, Louis, are superior to Lewis in that regard.
Sure, good points but even accounting for all that, it's still appeared that Lennox was more resilient in some fights as compared to others. Physically, I guess a fighter can't hold the exact same resilience from one fight to the next but still exhibit resilience within a tight enough range as to be near enough for it to a reliable fixed value. Perhaps the range upheld by Lennox was a bit wider and open to greater variation.
It has got nothing to do with era. I base that of the footage we have of him and how he handled being hit. When he was KO'd, he was hit clean by power punches he didn't see. The shot Rahman hit him with would have taken out pretty much any HW that ever lived. Put Ali instead of Lewis and Rahman landing that shot on Ali, Ali is out. Put Tyson instead of Lewis and Rahman landing that shot on Tyson, Tyson is out. Put Holmes in....and he's out. Put whomever you want and they are out.
