We would've seen this mouthwatering match up had Kovalev not been robbed blind by Mr Have Gloves, Won't Travel Dre and his tag-team partner judges. Both Kovalev and Beterbiev are road warriors, whereas, conversely, Dre wouldn't dare do once what they do religiously, something what he himself refers to as ''doing it the hard way.'' Dre would never sign on the dotted line unless he had the deck stacked heavily in his favour.
It's a no-brainer. The one who beat the other x2, didn't scrape a SD over a journeyman, easily has the best pro win, hasn't been KO'd by Ward, E. Alvarez and C. Alvarez, was ducked by 2/3 of them and is still going strong at 38, 2 years older than when the other was being KO'd by a MW.
Kovalev was an awesome front runner, but still a front runner. The way he mentally imploded after the first Ward fight shows how much he lacked in the mental strength department. He was purely motivated by revenge and never corrected his mindset going into the rematch. Front runners always tend to implode at one point in their careers and rarely come through adversity. Are we also forgetting he lost to Eleider Alvarez too, whilst STILL in his physical prime?
He's got a point Beterbiev did beat Kovalev in the amateurs. If anything Beterbiev is more suited to the pro ranks than ams. Something to consider.
My first thought was Kovalev by close decision, but after seeing your comment with some others I'm now persuaded that Artur will get to Kov around 9 or 10 and stop him due to exactly what you said,,,mental strength.
Kovalev is a racist ass hole but he beat Ward clear as day in the first fight. Not commenting on the ending of the second.
No he did not. Ward won the fight, I scored it for him and the judges gave it to him by unanimous decision. Now I know you may dislike and disagree with the unanimous verdict in the first fight and you are entitled to your feelings but not to your own facts. FACTS matter and the record books show and will always Ward beat Kovalev not once but twice. Ward is greater and better than the racist ******* Vodka abusing piece of ****.
AB KO 10 Kova does well early with his distance control, but it would be short lived as ABs pressure and power begin taking their toll... Kova begins to wilt around the 7th and gets folded in the 10th. Kova is too soft for AB.
I like a prime Kov. But the strength if AB has to be taken into consideration. Ward roughed up Kov, regardless of the dirty tactics, Kov got roughed up. AB would do a better job at roughing up and disrupting Kov. Don't get m wrong. Kov fight a great fight against Ward, but he just couldn't keep Ward at his preferred distance. 50/50.
Gvozdyk was bigger than Kovalev and had more skill too. He was also an Olymian and also a big puncher (Adonis coma). Yet Beterbiev obliterated him, made him quit and retired him.
