This was the term used after JCC finished the Black Mamba twice. Their first fight was quick where JCC only was able to show distance management but JCC closed the show early and got him the 2nd round TKO. It wasn't until their 2nd fight that JCC was able to fully expose The Philly Shell. Again Chavez showed distance management but then also continuous level changing, feints , cutting off the ring, double ups on the body to head on the same side and stepping in at an angle then throwing around the shoulder. JCC also kept his left hook up close which shut down Rogers right hand into a continuous defensive position. After being fully exposed JCC finished with Roger Mayweather's corner quitting after the 9th. If JCC laid out the blue print on how to crack the code then why did no one find success against FMM? Of course FMM ring IQ was superior to his uncle Rogers but Roger was still a championship level fighter with 59w 38ko's. If FMM was in the ring that night with a young unbeatable JCC instead of The Black Mamba would JCC have found the same success? Thoughts?
I used that video for reference and rewatched the two fights. Im also looking at how SRL did against FM Sr. Also a great fight
For one thing …Floyd is better at the shoulder roll than Roger …the same way Tim Witherspoon is better at the crab defense than Ken Norton…or how Winky Wright has a better defense than Ike Quartey
Secondly…people could crack it …if the shoulder roll didn’t work…he could adjust …like he did against Zab Judah and Shane Mosley
I don’t think that’s true at all. I just think Mayweather didn’t want to hit has hard- tactically or for a lack of sturdy hands.
There is no way in hell that Floydd even came close to Rogers righthand. Not even close, Have you heard the stories about how Roger as an amateur? Rogers righthand was DEADLY for years. He put Sweet Pea in a world of trouble with it. Funny because Pendleton had a huge righthand and he knocked Mayweather into next week with it when they fought.
Floyd UD … I honestly don’t think pressure is the answer for Floyd …I think his kryptonite is another slick boxer … preferably with a height and reach advantage… I think Antonio Cervantes is a tougher fight for Floyd than Chavez or Tyszu
Not the same fighter at all I'm not implying that but Floyd really did not impress me against Castillo. Even w the cheating he fought against he had a tougher time against Maidana than he should've too. I favor pre WW JCC over Floyd but even a WW JCC up til the mid 90s would give Floyd issues imho. Agreed w the power difference between Roger n Floyd. FMJ was a boxer-puncher until WW but not of the punching caliber of Roger. Clearly more skilled everywhere else tho.
