I keep posting about this subject over and over, saying the same things again and again, but I'll end with this:

From my perspective, Usyk doesn't mind walking away from this fight. I don't think he's interested in mandos and I don't think he's interested in belts. This is the heavyweight division, not the cruiserweight division where fights can be made relatively easy for a few mil. He's fought once a year since 2019, partly due to injuries, covid, AJ-Fury and contractual rematches. I think deep down he realises he's probably never going to be the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. There's too much not-boxing stuff in the way. At the very least he's the Ring champ, and has defended all of his alphabet belts at least once. His country is getting battered, his own pro-Russian identity has taken a battering, his children are young, he's getting older and his style thrives on activity (like Loma's)

Usyk is prepared to walk away from this fight - and that makes him the most powerful person in the deal. Usyk's stock isn't going to drop from this. His track-record is too good. He had two huge fights with AJ which were made relatively easily. He's not tarnished by multiple AJ fights falling through - regardless of whether that was Fury's fault or not. The minute Usyk beat AJ in Saudi he was free from Matchroom, and became the real king of the division, not a man pigeonholed into talking up pointless fights while preserving his own aura of invincibility. A true king who does whatever the fook he wants, and that king is Oleksandr Usyk, NOT Tyson Fury

Does Usyk want a peydey? Of course. He's always had that Lennox Lewis-style mindset of 'if you work hard upfront, and take tough fights, and keep on winning, then the money will eventually come'. I'm sure he wants all of those millions for himself and for his country. What's he going to get from fighting Dubois or Hrgovic or Joyce? I wouldn't be surprised if one of them manages to get a win on him, to be honest. This is boxing after all. Usyk has nothing to lose - he wants 50/50, because he knows he's worth that. He's pushing 50/50, because he knows he can call it a day @ 20-0 with no blemishes on his professional record

This is REAL mindgames. Not shouting in a man's face. You think Usyk calls Fury BELLY for fun? He's doing it to present an honest picture of wanting to fight, not coked-up ramblings ringside for Warren fighter #16 vs Warren fighter #287. This is how it's done. If Usyk even takes 49.9% of the purse, he's giving Tyson Fury a little victory

But, at the same time, if Usyk DOES take less than 50%, that shows he's putting greatness and a shot at entering the top 20 boxers of all time, over everything else. Still, one has to wonder, and I can't envy Fury and his mEnTaL hEaLtH right now: his bubble's bursting and he's not sure how to stop it. There's no guaranteed way of stopping the pop, just options that might work: beat the man in the ring, being chief among them

Boxing fans today are much more in-the-know than they were yesteryear. Maybe that's because the sport is smaller than it once was, or maybe that's due to the role of ICT in our lives. The days of Tyson blasting out blokes with multiple losses and being hailed as this new Muhammad Ali are over. Fans, from forum-goers who debate Monzon vs Hagler, to lorry drivers who think Eubank could beat Golovkin, are all waiting for this fight and they will not be denied

 

It's a difficult one because money wise in a business sense usyk isn't worth 50% based purely on his draw and name amongst the general population.

Of course we all know in a boxing sense he's got 3 belts and has the better resume. We know he is an elite fighter and a level above anyone fury has ever fought and on that basis in my eyes he's worth at least 50%.

Unfortunately what will happen here is usyks team will say they deserve 50% which in a way they do.

And furys team will say you ain't worth 50 percent which In a way they are right.

Whoever wants the fight most will have to give in.

I think usyk should just take the financial hit sign the contract and spank ol gypsy boy.

 

Wilder fight was fixed pretty quickly every time.
The big difference is if a boxer wants a fight or not.
Then it suddenly becomes about A side and percentages.
Which is just pricing yiurself out of the fight to duck it without seeming like duck.
Which is even worse. Atleast admit youre running scared...

 

I've watched Kurt's channel now and again over the years, as he follows the division closely. Usually a pretty relaxed guy. Never really seen him get that worked up before.

Fury is in Saudi because after the all or nothing bet with Jack Paul his (half) brother Tommy and his father are going to need some cash to get home.

But he's right to rant on Fury. Usyk has 3 belts Fury only 1 so maybe Usyk should get 75% of the take. Kidding of course but 50/50 is fair.
Regarding not selling out the O2 arena, have the fight in Kiev and let's see how many show up.

 

That’s the whole point. Kurt is very relaxed, usually seeing the bright side of everything. But he is rightly pissed now with the Furys. He is absolutely right, they are the cancer of HW boxing.

He isn't going to bluff Fury into taking 50:50.
