No need to run and hide unless Joe Louis himself disagrees - because we know Joe will always find us.

Come to think of it, Joe probably would’ve disagreed - god speed to the bunker and slam the lid shut asap!

I don’t know if I could say concretely that Ali won - but it’s def. arguable imo.

And who can ignore the commentators own repeated observations as to how many times Joe was getting hit in the head - musing “how can he take that?” and “surely he can’t keep taking it”.

No, commentators don’t inform or form my opinion - but I can say that their own, as and when observations, often equated to mine - but add also that their real time observations might be seen to be in conflict with their overall opinion as to who won the fight.

Often, the commentary was such as if to say that Ali’s numerous shots didn’t count because Joe took them with such incredible stoicism.

Ali would land a hard 5 punch combo - but the overriding rant was how amazing Joe was to be able to take it - ignoring the small issue of the points Ali was building and that the point scoring punches put Joe further behind.

Lol, it was as if Joe was also “scoring” points for taking Ali’s punches - quite the catch 22 for Muhammad. Hit or be hit, it’s all still going into Joe’s bag. Haha.

Even then, I guess the commentators did acknowledge at times, the early, very healthy points lead Ali was building -but Frazier’s later, more dramatic successes appeared to make them forget Ali’s early work and continued work throughout.

Cheers buddy, you threw me a bone thanks, good point about the punches landed and or scored, the shots from Ali were heavy and hurtful, in particular with his right, the fact that Joe took all Ali,s punches for 41 rounds or so, speaks volumes to Fraziers chin, durability, and courage, he truly was a titan ( not in size ) of the HWs history, and would rather watch him fight than Ali, or almost any other HW any day of the week, a peak Frazier ( the Foster fight for me ) would present ANY heavy weight in history with a hard nights work, and the opponent would have to be in tip top condition, and ready to fight to to end, to subdue Smoking Joe, lest we forget.......

Round 9 rings out in particular - the way Ali drove Joe back with clearly audible, thudding power punches. There’s so many features to that match that recommend their epic clash as the true FOTC - potentially the FOAT (all time) really.
