I think Tommy Fury is in big trouble against Jake Paul.

if they do tune in to your average UK card nowadays, it’ll put them off again immediately and they’ll go back to Minecraft

 

The point was that this even was somehow going to help save boxing because it would put eyes on it, whereas I don't think it'll make an ounce of difference

My take from the weigh in is that Jake has the very relaxed manner of someone who knows the fights already won. Tommy must have been handed one fat brown envelope

 

I think the Fury family are too proud to allow any sort of fix. Indirectly, it reflects badly on John and Tyson if Tommy loses.

I'm actually quite looking forward to this - should be fun. As for the point a couple of pages back about the TikTok/Instagram audience not sticking with boxing - you never know. Everyone has to start somewhere.

 

One of my workmates pinged me last night to ask if I was getting the "Fury fight". He didn't know which of the Pauls was fighting (initially said Logan then Jake but barely knows which is which) but he knows Tommy Fury and knows he's "fighting a crazy youtuber".

They aren't particularly into boxing - golf and football mainly - so shows anecdotally the fight has cut through. He's paid for it.

Youtube and Celebrity boxing doesnt have my interest, but I recognize that there is huge interest in Paul vs Fury. All my working colleagues are watching tomorrow evening. 8 out of 11 have ordered the event on BT Sports Box Office and they expect a huge fight. I think they will be left disappointed

 

All this "attract a new audience" stuff reminds me of when 20/20 cricket started. That was going to bring people into watching the proper stuff, but it ended up ruining the domestic game. If tonight is a success I can see the new breed of fans starting to demand things like electronic scoring and five round fights. Instant gratification and plenty of clickbait.

 

Cricket is absolutely shite tbf.

 

All my friends have been talking about Paul Fury since the 1st one was cancelled. There will be huge numbers of people watching. It appeals to the Youtube crowd and also the Love Island / influencer one too. I think it'll do between 500,000 - 600,000 PPV buys.

 

My work are paying for it so at least I get to watch it without the shame of having paid for it myself.
