Can you call Dariusz Michalczewski a borderline atg?

Looking at the number of defences he made in a good division and unlike Johnny Nelson and Omar Narvaez his title defence weren't too shabby he had an above average career.

Probably not quite. I have him just outside my top 20 at LHW. I'm not home to check, but I think I may have him at #21.

Arguably a borderline, borderline LHW ATG, if such a thing were to exist.

I've said this multiple times but his career is very similar to Golovkin, both fighters made a similar amount of title defences. Both fighters didn't have the best opposition, although Michalczewski has Virgil Hill which is stand out win between the two.

Overall Golovkin was probably a bit more dominant than Michalczewski, and looked better regarding the eye test. But I would say theres very little between them regarding achievements.

Finally I would say they're both Hall Of Fame fighters, but I don't think they quite reach ATG status.

Borderline is probably reasonable. He initially went 48-0 before losing and racked up a lot of wins over some of the same guys Roy Jones was beating

Sure. Why not? You could make an argument.

    He had a good run.

The HOURS people spent arguing about Roy Jones and Dariusz Michalczewski on boxing boards back then were staggering.

He certainly qualified for ATG status in "hours spent arguing about him" during his heyday.;)

Not quite on the subject but it always frustrated me that Michalczewski and Roy Jones Jr. didn't fight each other. I don't remember the match having the public really wanting it like Errol Spence and Terence Crawford but it would have been considerably more historically significant.

You could argue that he was "borderline" at the absolute extremes, yeah. Every fighter has his range, and you could argue that the very top of his range is borderline.

The thing is most rely a bit too much on boxrec.
He already lost to Rochigiani in their first fight, essentially quit but got a gift.He caught Griffin and Hill at just the right time. The stoppage against Griffin was dubious who had little time to prepare anyway.Hill was coming off a long layoff and an injury.Against Hall, he got another gift.Tiozzo who was about the same age destroyed him.The mediocre Gonzalez outboxed him. he fought exclusively in Germany essentially his home where he enjoyed a lot of advantages. He was a very good fighter but tend to get overrated.Certainly not great

By the above standard we can pretty much tear apart any resume.
