From what I’ve seen online, not too many people are picking Loma and it seems like a foregone conclusion that Haney wins. I do believe that the 10 year age difference is a huge advantage for Haney but I’m not so convinced that Loma is done just yet. If I’m getting a nice dog price on Loma, I’m pulling the trigger without hesitation.
I hope Loma does beat him. There's still fight in him yet and fingers crossed he gets the job done. Either way it's going to be a fantastic fight, been looking forward to it for ages.
Agreed but this is still close to a 50/50 fight so getting nearly double your money I’d take a shot for sure. I think $ will come in on Haney as we get closer and Loma’s odds will be better.
Prime Loma was clearly superior to Haney p4p. Factor in Haney's substantial size advantage vs a faded Loma, and I make Haney favourite. I've nothing against Haney, who I think is very talented, if a little dull to watch, but I hope I'm wrong. I just doubt I am.
On paper this is not a 50/50 fight. Loma's best win is a 7-5 victory over Gary Russell Jr. That was years ago. Haney would squash Russell like a little bug.
If you don't see size playing a part stylistically, then that's 1 thing, but there's clearly a substantial size difference. I do think size will play a part. Haney is naturally c.15lbs heavier. He is way rangier, that combined with his distance control and handspeed makes it difficult for Loma to outbox him from a safe, long distance. Being naturally so much lighter means Loma can't outmuscle him in close. It's possible Loma could outbox and outwork Haney in the pocket, I'd tentatively favour a prime Loma to do just thought, but not this Loma. He is at significant disadvantages in both age and size, imo. It will be a sensational win if he pulls it off.
I agree with what you said but you guys are acting like Loma is washed. Sure he didn’t look spectacular in his last fight but the motivation behind this fight is a whole different level. I believe that even now Loma can still outbox Haney if he’s on his A game.
I don't think Loma is shot, he's still an excellent fighter and I don't totally discount him. I want him to win, think he's been a greater fighter than Haney (who is a very good boxer) ever will be. Its just at this stage, I favour Haney.
Whilst 20lbs natural difference could be about right, i doubt it's quite that much in the ring. I think Loma is early 140's in the ring at LW, I doubt Haney is over 160lbs. I agree the size difference is both substantial and significant, though.
Vasiliy Lomachenko is 2 times Olympic gold medalist, 2 times world gold medalist and 1 time European gold medalist. He had also 3 division world professional championships. On the other hand, Haney has 0 (zero) medals. Theoretically, he is a bum picked up from street. Loma will beat Haney black and blue and KO him around round 9.
