Do you remember the announcer who deputised for Cosell on ABC in the early 80s? He called ABC's highlights replay of Hearns v Benitez, for one. Only heard him call a few bouts. I thought he had a great voice for the sport and an engaging way about him.

Hmmmm. Can't think of who that might be.

Chris Schenkel. Like I said, he called Hearns v Benitez for ABC and I think (can't swear to it, because it is not a fight I want to revisit) he was alongside Cosell for Holmes v Cobb. Had an ideal voice for a sportscaster.

OH yeah, he was great! I think he was normally a football guy too, if I remember right.

Keith Jackson also backed up Cosell on occasion, and called some high profile fights of his own (Chacon-Limon IV, and Saad-Johnson II for example).

Circling back to the topic, he also called Pintor vs Davila II, and did his usual exemplary job. In a way, he was better than Cosell at calling great fights; he was normally pretty easy going in terms of delivery, so when he got excited, you knew the action was getting good.

You're right, Drew101. Jackson was really good, as well. Both Schenkel and Jackson were less excitable than H C - and more sheerly likable.
