It was a great win in many aspects: Fury made him clown before the fight; Fury made him clown during the fight, as Wlad was unable to adapt, react or understand what's happening. It wasn't a big fight in terms of exchange and damage, but technically was a great performance from Fury, one that no one was able to do against Wladimir. It surely isn't one of the top fights ever, but it's nowhere near boring, but I get it, maybe some people expected different and I don't blame them for that. I was expecting just what Fury did - humiliate this cheater. And Fury made him clown post-fight.
It was a good win all things considered. Fury turned up confident and showed great movement that befuddled Wlad, who was ready to be dethroned. By all means not a legendary win though.
It was a very good win on paper, Wlad in Germany wasn't an easy night. But, Till this day, TILL THIS DAY, TILL THIS DAY my favourite all time RBR thread, it was hilarious. The abuse being thrown at them BOTH was just superb. If my memory serves me correctly there were calls for the ring to be blown up during the fight because it was such a boring and miserable fight. This is one of those fights were memories have clearly distorted over time, it turned from a boring fight to a MASTERCLASS in minutes after the final bell.
It was boring as hell andFury did just enough to win those rounds. But if you consider that he made Wlad gun shy with his movement and feints. Wlad couldnt get his jab going he couldnt win any rounds. He was mentally destroyed before the fight. Was outboxed fir the first time. Remember everyone thought Wlad could only be ko'd. He surely wasnt going to lose a ud to a self upoercutting meme in Dusseldorf. So the fight itself was very boring but Fury did well in shutting Wlad down and doing just enough to win rounds and therefore win an overseas UD ending the reign of one of the most dominants heavyweight chanpions ever. Its a shame there was no rematch though. I wanted to see that more agressive Wlad that AJ fought and see how Fury would deal with that.
Prime Fury would have KO'd any version of Wlad. A-side home champ Wlad got schooled by a man in his championship debut, who only had two 12 rounders previously against Chisora and Kevin.
Maybe Fury-Wilder 2. Playing devil's advocate Lewis got hit a lot more by 6'1 Holyfield than Fury did by 6'5 Wlad, Vitali as well and the fight was controversial (had Vitali been the A-side it would have continued and it was in the balance).
Statistically there's never been a better 12 round defensive pure boxing performance at heavyweight. It's the GOAT win in that respect. According to Compubox Fury limited Wlad to 52 connects, 34 jabs. No champion has ever been limited to so few lands in a championship fight in boxing history at any weight. And Wlad wasn't any champion; he was historically long-reigning, one of the hardest punchers ever and P4P No.2. Relatively inexperienced (two full 12 rounders vs Chisora and Kevin) 4/1 underdog Fury went into A-side champ master boxer (never outpointed in 69 fights save by Fury) Wlad's backyard in his championship debut and completely schooled him, winning almost every round while barely being touched and exhibiting some of the most brazen showboating you’ll ever see. It was like a magic trick; Fury had hustled Wlad out of his belts without taking any real punishment over 36 minutes. Byrd, who is supposed to be a super slick boxer in his own right, got badly beaten up and lost practically every round in both fights against Wlad. Even Usyk, as great a boxer as he is, took something like 2.4x as many punches against Joshua 1 according to Compubox.
Don't believe those above who praise and exaggerate Fury's win. Fury did almost nothing in the fight. It was a draw. It's on YouTube, you can watch and see with your own eyes. Fury knew Was would adjust and beat him in the rematch, therefore he ducked Wlad twice.
If it was a draw then why did A-side champ Wlad's judges in Germany give it to Fury by 8-4 or 9-3? Why didn't they score a SINGLE round unanimously for Wlad, to Fury's four? Why did at least two of the judges give Fury 9 rounds to Wlad's 3? Why did virtually everyone score it for Fury and usually by wider margins than the judges? No heavyweight in history could do what Fury did to Wlad that night, which is why Fury set the all time 12 round defensive record. How many punches did green inactive Cooney land on prime Holmes?
I kind of always looked at that fight as Tyson Fury beating Wlad at his own game. The fight wasn't spectacular, but I wouldn't rank it low, and the result is historic (ending Wlad's decade-long dominance).
Good win.... Average opponent (Was an old cautios Klitchko)... Terrible spectacle.... Significance was created by a weak heavyweight division dominated by Klitchko... Was not for undisputed title..... So don't rate it very high at all... So many historic fights trump this one it is not worth mentioning them individually.....
This content is protected Fury has cemented himself alongside Muhammad Ali as the most colourful and charismatic HW of all times. Wlad trying to deny it was the best part. Emmanuel Stewart told Fury that Wlad was the Sauna champion so of course given Wlad didn't let Fury spar him he was going to beat him one way or another.
Worst headbutt ever. He charged it up from the other side of the ring just about. It's the only time I've seen Wlad do this and its a testament to how frustrated he was fighting Fury.
Disagree about the draw, but it was one of the lowest output, lowest action fights I can remember. Wlad really wouldn't have had to pick up the pace by much to beat Fury in a rematch
