No he didn't. At least base your argument in reality.

Reality check - Vitali fought with a low guard and brought his punches up from the hip. He's get to get caught.

plenty of fights that, in a vacuum, make some all time great fighters appear less-than. that's why people on these boards discuss context, like whether a fighter collapsed immediately after a fight, saw god, and retired.

i feel like beating an all time great hw puncher does a lot more for your uncle's legacy than just beating a guy who wasn't on his level. but you clearly have your position and that's that.

I grew up idolising Big George, but I have to reluctantly agree with your analysis.

You agree that Vitali beat more sophisticated offences than Foreman? Like who?

More sophisticated? You joking? Prime Foreman's offence was about as unsophisticated as it gets. He didn't feint, didn't set traps, didn’t walk opponents onto his shots, he just bludgeoned them.

His offence was extremely effective nevertheless and if you'd asked who Vitali fought who had a more effective offence than prime Foreman, then that'd a totally different point.

Young Foreman had issues with stamina. When faced with a world-class foe he had to win within the first 4 or 5 rounds or risk gassing out.
Nobody in history gets rid of Vitali Klitschko within 4 or 5 rounds.

Interesting matchup! Can't pick confidently, maybe 55\45 in favour of Vitali.

Honestly not even Frazier had a true inside game if he did he wouldn’t have been in so much danger up close. Sure it looked sophisticated against guys like Ali who didn’t know a thing about it.

Here is your context. He was dominated in his prime by a decent fighter- Uncle Jimmy was no great. “Mentally shattered” sure after but during the fight he had one handful of good moments then he quit because he saw “God” while being in a state of delirium after being used as a punching bag.

Foreman would be the one to emerge out the other side for mine. I don't think Vitali would hold up.

If you’re replying to who I think you’re replying to (I have the guy on ignore but the uncle comment gave it away). Jimmy Young is not his real uncle nor is any other boxer. For some reason, he’s obsessed with this bout. It’s very worrying tbh.

For someone who’s watched the bout countless times, he still gets some takes laughably wrong like saying Young exchanged with Foreman, something Young himself admitted he did not do, and in fact actively tried too avoid according to the man himself.

this is actually an example of totally divorcing things from context and just framing them based on your predetermined conclusions.

you seem to be of the opinion that foreman wasn't all that great, and neither was your uncle jimmy. holding that opinion, to me, would seem to require ignoring ALL CONTEXT at all times. but to each their own. for my 2 cents, I think foreman was a great fighter. And while Jimmy Young was not an all time great, anyone who gives Ken Norton, Muhammad Ali and George Foreman such tough fights is great in my book.
