For anybody wondering why this is in Yerevan, it turns out Gassiev (born in Vladikavkaz, Russia and currently training out of Big Bear in the U.S.) is now an Armenian citizen as of Wednesday. Wonder which flag will he carry into the ring.

 

According to a Francisco Salazar article in Ring just yesterday he's still residing in and based out of Big Bear:

...but I guess it's possible Salazar could have just been assuming based on outdated info.

I know Murat was roommates and became friends with Arsen Goulamirian while they were both training at BB, and El Feroz is from Yerevan. Maybe he hyped up his hometown enough that it made an impression?

 

Imagine he was the same guy? Those acting creds along with 20-0 pro boxer and NFL player? He'd be the quintessential modern day Renaissance man.
