Taking down the divisional number one in his own country is always a big deal.

If people mark down Fury's victory over Wlad it's because Fury went off the rails afterwards, forcing the rematch with Wlad to be cancelled and retired for just over two years while getting fat, drunk and abusing drugs.

His victory was a watershed moment in the history of the Heavyweight Division as it signalled the end of the Klitschko era, and Wlad came into the fight as a dominant champion who hadn't been legitimately tested by anyone in years, so the achievement should not be undervalued, but the way Fury just collapsed in his personal and professional life in the aftermath made for a sorry spectacle.

The most memorable heavyweight title fight ive sat and watched live.....only as it was such a bore fest!! Hardly any action from either fighter...lots of feints. It was like morris dancing crossing into boxing!! What was the average punches thrown per round? Im sure it was something like 3 landed per fighter per round. Embarrasing to watch and the perfect fight to watch if ur struggling to sleep

It was a great victory for boxing, without it we would still be in the dark ages of heavyweight boxing.

    This.

It was a very significant victory for Fury, his best IMO, and it was very significant bout for boxing... a changing of the guard.

And the judges awarded the fight to the correct man.

However, the fight itself was a very dull affair, one of the least exciting fights I've watched in a very long time.

Pretty much, the only excitement was what was generated by the significance 'event' itself, what was at stake.

The fight was faaaaaaaar from being a schooling. Two mediocre performances with a victor emerging almost by default.

The ultimate pro champ Wlad was poor on the night. He needed to effect a plan B mid rounds and let them go but left it too late. The display vs Joshua was what was needed and I still hold that Wlad beats Fury in 16.

It was a great win let's be real. Overshadowed by the pomp and ceremony and action of AJ-Klit, but still an extremely impressive win. Fury's win over Klit in 2015 sort of exists in an alternate reality because Fury has never looked the same since and we have no idea how a rematch would've gone. Was also Peter Fury's genius who seems to be exiled from Tyson's life now. So the whole thing sort of exists in a vacuum and leads to threads like this. I'm not an AJ fanboy but if I was I would make a SERIOUS case that his win in 2017 was better

Prime Fury may well have been Fury from Wilder 2, he would have likely stopped Wlad. Dusseldorf Fury instead won 2x-3x as many rounds in Wlad's backyard and barely took a solid punch.

I don't care about the personal score of every fool on the forum with an axe to grind against Fury. If you check the official scores you'll see that A-side champ Wlad's judges in Germany gave Fury 8-9 of the 12 rounds. Look it up yourself, you might be surprised.

"He is known for cherry picking his opponents"

He fought Seferi after coming off being out of action for 31 months, morbidly obese and a drug user, then within 6 months of his comeback fought Wilder in America. Every two fights he fought Wilder again. Whyte was a mandatory, Chisora 1 was the favourite, Chisora 2 was an eliminator. And weren't most of Wlad's opponents panned as "bums"?

There is no "ducking" if you've already beaten the guy easily in his backyard.

Why didn't you admit that Wlad was an actual ducker of guys who beat him in his backyard, like Puritty and Sanders? And his cherrypicking of Brewster after he'd gone through a ton of wars and lost the belt.

Let him insists on a draw, so it'll speak for himself. The guy points out how great Wlad is and what a big nothing Fury was, yet even him scores it a draw, but not a victory for the great one over the punk.

When Usyk fights Chisora it's a good win, when Fury does - Chisora is crap (not that the third fight wasn't a shame). Same for AJ - when he fights Whyte - Whyte is a top one, but when Fury jokes with him - Whyte is **it boxer. AJ won over Wlad - great. Fury winning against Wlad - "Wlad was old".

27 year old Fury fought a 39 year old granddad who had lost most of his movement, accuracy and reflexes, yet still it was a DRAW. No schooling involved.
