"Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom is hoping to officially announce the super middleweight clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and John Ryder in the coming days."

    Who takes it and how?

Canelo has a great resume at 168. Wins over Plant, BJS, Smith, GGG, and now potentially Ryder. If Benavidez beats Plant he's the last guy he needs to face from that division.

Not really a cherrypick mate let's learn our lingo. A cherrypick was an ageing Kovalev who still had a bit of name value and had just gone to war with Yarde 3 months earlier. This is a stay-busy fight

When it comes to Canelo's Brit-bashing this is somewhere between Fielding and Khan. It's a nice little stay-busy fight even if a fighter of Canelo's professionalism and activity doesn't really need a stay-busy fight

What matters, however, is what comes after Ryder. Maybe even how the Ryder fight goes. I would rather Canelo laid this Bivol rubbish to rest but at the same time if Plant beats Benavidez then I don't see Canelo fighting him again, which is a shame as Plant deserves it. Canelo's in a weird spot as he's hit his ceiling. I guess he could fight Badou Jack but what's the point? Could take Charlo's O. I dunno

Canelo's at the point now where it's bash his head against 175 until it breaks, stay at 168 and crush the opposition for the foreseeable future or start dragging guys up for Oscar/Floyd-esque superfights

    Canelo by late TKO.
Will be interesting to see if he fights sloppy though with the fight being back home.

Canelo win. Not a fan of his but not sure why he is getting knocked for this fight. He can be accused of a lot of things but if anyone deserves a tune up fight it is Canelo. Whether he stacks the deck or not he does make fights happen.

No, at this point he's definitely above both of them at this point. John Ryder losing to Fielding was a terrible injustice. He won that fight without a doubt. Then the Khan that Canelo fought, was the definition of a record padding "name" and cherry pick. Khan was coming off of struggling mightily and getting rocked a few times by Chris Frigging Algieri. John on the other hand is a proven Super Middleweight coming off of several top tier performances and should've got the win over Callum Smith. Pre-Super Middleweight Ryder this might've been applicable to, this version, is vastly improved.

I really like John Ryder, but Canelo is a world class fighter. John Ryder is Euro level.

He beat Callum Smith and Daniel Jacobs. Two world level fighters. That makes him 100% not Euro Level.
