Right now I'm thinking of the Duran V Barkley fight. I know Barkley wasn't a ATG middle, but non the less, Duran was knocking on. He was facing an hard hitter, tough guy. Duran put on a great performance that night. Just one example of an Ageing fighter great fight.
Natural BW Edre Jofre beating the bigger Jose Legra and an admittedly faded, but 7 years younger, ATG FW Vicente Saldivar, at the age of 37, when 37 was really old for a fighter, deserves a shout. Archie Moore beat ATG Harold Johnson at 40 and much bigger HW Nino Valdes aged 41, does too. Foreman beating Moorer aged 45 was not a great performance as such, but is a greatly significant win considering his age.
If we believe the theory that he was pulling his punches for the first half of the fight to lure Moorer into trying to do something stupid like stand and fight with him, the win seems better, because that's some clever strategy right out of a boxing movie.
Yeah, great win however you look at it. Its just not the greatest "performance" by an aged fighter, in boxing history, imo. I should have qualified my statement as such, rather than just saying it wasn't a great performance.
Foreman setting up Michael Moorer. After throwing wide slow punches round After round. Switched it up with a couple quick straight one-twos, good night Michael Moorer. George Foreman is the new Heavyweight Champion of the world at 45 yrs old.
Duran putting Pazienza on the canvas twice in their first bout and then beating Hector Camacho in their first fight only to get robbed.
After lhis sluggish display in their first fight,Lennox Lewis looking awesome beating Hasim Rahman in their rematch.
