He should retire and I don't think his heart is in boxing anymore, which is totally fine, but I'm sure he wants to retire on a win so I expect an easy fight to be announced sooner or later. Martinez vs GGG lol
He’s the IBF middleweight champion of the world, if he doesn’t want to fight a credible opponent or get punched in the face anymore then gtfo of the sport and change careers.
I am team Canelo all the way. So what if Lara called him out? Lara competed at 154 for ages. Did Lara´s team ever reach out with a fight offer? Or is it Golovkin who should have started the negotiations when a fighter from a lower weight classed called him out on social media? Also, I´d like to remind you that Golovkin got a lot of **** for fighting and trying to fight guys from 154lbs.
I’m at work and it’s not as an investigative journalist. Google produces endless results on the topic from almost a decade ago up to yesterday. GGG never showed the slightest inclination toward making this fight. If you think he ducked Lara because it wouldn’t be fair for him to fight one more 154 pounder, you need to be riding the short bus.
...then retire. Lara was the best active MW. One could argue Jermall but I think Lara is best...and he's older too (Lara 39 yo) so it would've been a fair fight. GGG has made a career out of fighting Canelo three times, Jacobs, and Dervenchenko. Literally zero other worthwhile opponents despite at least a dozen of other opportunities
Never said that. Google gives only "Lara calls out Golovkin". And? Did Lara reach out to make a fight? No, he never did. All he did was run his mouth on social media. So I for one don´t really care. I mean, you could argue that Golovkin ducked him now, because he gave up his belt. But before this? Such a pointless argument. Lara spent numerous years fighting complete nobodies while calling out Golovkin, who was busy with his own division.
That was just a staybusy fight and everyone knew it. Canelo payday baby! Honestly, if you think that Golovkin ran scared of Lara then so be it. Good for you, I guess.
"When Tom came to me and offered Lara and Sergio Mora, I'm the one who said 'I don't want those fights.' I'm the one who said that before there was a chance to have it discussed with Gennady. I told that to Tom, because first of all Lara has not earned the right to fight Golovkin" GG pulled vanes out of a two year retirement around that time
Whose quote is that? And of course they went with Vanes, it was just a stay busy fight. Of course Golovkin wasn´t going to risk the Canelo rematch.
He also said Lara brought no money then went and fought Dominic Wade and Willie Monroe. He's never wanted to fight Lara because of his style, and because of the possibility he might lose. This is further proof of that.
I would like to see that fight at 168lbs or a catch weight. Munguia fought "Kill Rain"at that weight because he is out growing the middleweight division. Mungo is a big boy. GGG needs more time at 168lbs, that is if he has anything left. Against Canelo in trilogy fight, he seemed to hold back, and wasn't even tired after the fight. I think GGG should fight at 168lbs, but bring the thunder, otherwise just retire. Going out after respectable relatively close decision loss to the much younger Canelo, could be a nice gentle landing into retirement.
