I was hoping Makhmudov would walk through Takam after reading about him in Boxing News Magazine you'd swear he was a cross between Mike Tyson and Sonny Liston,, going to points with a 50 year old doesn't really back that up
High risk low reward type of fight Big Mak is, not many contenders will be interested in him. Ajagba stands out, because he also is with Top Rank. Kabayel and Pulev may be options as well. Bakole and Wallin are attainable. Maybe Frank Sanchez as no one is interested in facing him. Simon Kean? Thats an interesting local matchup. The rest of the names are with rival promoters, which complicates matters.
According to russian news, Arslanbek recently declined an offer to fight Zhan Kossubutskiy. His promoter Camille Estefan said, his next fight will take place in the USA and it will be a big name, well known in the USA. They first gonna try to find him a TopRank fighter. Edit: It seems like Arslanbek will face Efe Ajagba next. He could have Zhan, but he decided to face Efe.
In my opinion, Zhan is a much better and tougher fighter than Ajagba, so I am not surprised that Makhmudov chose Ajagba as his opponent...
Hm... Go for Whyte, Parker, Dubois, Ruiz, not all of them, but two and if he succeeds - aim for some top.
That's him crept into my top ten at heavy, though it's very arguable. If you keep a ranking there are a bunch of guys 10-15 who are just swapping out on each other when they fight. Assuming AJ eliminates Whyte there will soon be two guys like that, until people start stepping up.
I don't think they can afford any of those guys. No way does the Whyte fight happen, absolutely impossible. They do have a bit of a problem here actually, it's tough. Maybe he should fight Otto Wallin.
Probably it is so. Bad if it is, because the guy is 34, so either he will retire with some inglorious record, or he will at least try to claim some success - if not with the top 5, then a few top 10. Otto is fine, but will not bring him anything, because he is with a tad worse opposition.
My opinion is that he needs to take his cue from Wilder and bang his record up to 25-0, if he can't get top 20 opponents. Take anyone with a padded record looking to cash out ... like his last opponent. Mak has the persona and optics to be marketed as a truly challenging fight for a big name fighter ... he could be hyped up as an opponent but his part of a deal could be a relatively low percentage. 25-0 or more would help with marketing hype to casual fans. He's got B side attributes that promoters of the top names could really work with.
