I think Fury is the 'stronger' of the two in the usual boxing sense of being able to move the other guy backwards in a clinch. This is especially true when we're talking about the slightly slimmed down c 240lb [from a peak weight of c 250lb] Joshua who we've seen since the Ruiz 2 fight.

The above is, of course, at least as much a function of bodyweight as it is 'strength' per se. Joshua is comfortably the stronger of the two in weightlifting etc terms, in both the upper and lower body.

I thought the thread was about functional boxing strength and you impose your strength in clinch range. The world's best powerlifter isn't winning Olympic gold in wrestling, he's not got better functional wrestling strength. Usyk was only able to push Chisora and Joshua back deep into the fights when they were significantly more tired than he was. Lewis was relatively skinny early on in his career, he was 221 lbs at 25/26. Fury, with visible abs at 23/24, was never lighter than 246 lbs, and he's 3 inches taller. Fury's always seemed at least as strong as opponents if not more so, even against notably strong and heavy fighters like Wlad, Chisora and Whyte and he was able to ragdoll a 231 lbs Wilder when he boxed on the front foot.

I don't know if being shredded has much to do with being super strong as many of the strongest men in a number of strength based sports and positions carry a large amount of body fat. I expect everyone in the top 5 is a genetic freak. Even mid level journeymen likely have more talent for boxing than the vast majority of men their size.

Not at all. Actually, the softer muscle has better properties than the stiff one, just doesn't look that good. Also, being shredded has to do with body fat, but not having too much of, so to have more defined muscles doesn't mean they're very functional. Many weight and powerlifters, strongmen have a bit more than one would expect from a man that lifts weights, but it's because unlike bodybuilders they aim for strength, not vision.

Even the lifting itself differs: many powerlifters can deadlift and squat with a bigger amount of weight than a weightlifter, yet they're unable to clean and jerk or snatch bigger weights.

Fury is a big and strong man. To take those shots from Wilder then get up and floor him takes a lot of strength and willpower.

Think Joshua is stronger in a gym..... And has stronger punches.... However landing his good punches happens much less than Fury... Since Ruiz put him down.... And also strength of chin.....We all know who takes that

If that means who can do exercises (bench, squat, deadlift...) with heavier weights, then I think it's AJ.

Strength and power being two different things. Fury is stronger and Joshua is more powerful

I don't see evidence of this, especially considering Fury barely trains, I doubt he's stronger.

Aj probably but what good is it when you don't use your size and strength in the ring??? Unlike fury who does.

Joshua lacks the stamina to use his body weight in the ring. Its very tasking on the cardiovascular system to do it, but a big man who can use his weight effectively can destroy a smaller fighter.

The way he manhandles and imposes himself is clear indication. Strength isn't punch power, that's power/explosiveness, which are attributes Joshua has over him.

Strength is more about being immovable if you like. In that regard it is 100% Fury in my eyes
